Jiggin', trollin' and pullin'..Its all going now!

I just talked to Nick at Zippel Bay on the phone just a little while ago and I asked him about the pack of charter boats I saw East (NorthEast?) of

Lemms. It is prime trolling grounds in July and August but these boats werent trolling or anchored up. More investigation found these boats were slow drifting through this big school of fish with spinners.

Nick said at least a couple of his boats were in there and had been for a few days. I asked him why they were pulling spinners and he said the fish will bite on any of the big 3. The clients liked to pull spinners so thats what they were doing. He also said the fish were nicer in the morning. Easy to find these fish, they show up real well on the depthfinders because there are alot of them.

For those of you that have been pulling crankbaits, what seems to be the best size and color?

We like to run #5 Shad Raps and Deep Little Ripper Reef Runners alot but we pull alot of other different makes and models of crankbaits as well and almost every one will work at times. We switch to cranks with different actions and sizes alot during a day and constantly experiment. Some fish like a slow wobble while others will like a tight, fast action and you never know until you try a crank if the fish will like it or not. As far as colors the only general rule of thumb we follow is to start with bright, shiny colors on clear sunny days and darker, more natural colors on cloudy days. We constantly switch colors as wellas actions on most days. Different fish in the same school will definitely be triggered to bite by different crankbaits whether it be action or color. There are days where you can pull one crankbait all day and constantly catch fish, but most of the timne, there is more to it.
