vexilar FL8 on the boat

Was wondering what kind of luck guys have had using their vex FL8 in the boat? I also have a basic Humminbird 200dx graph. Does anyone know if there will be any interference problems, or anything else that might come up? Thanks.

I've got 2 in my boat. I believe the Fl-8 frequency is 200 and my Lowrance is 192. I don't have any interference. Check your Humminbird's frequency, that will tell you if it will be a problem or not.
Usually if I run the same frequency units from one end of the boat (i.e bow trolling motor to the rear transom) to the other, I still don't have interference.

Do you think it will matter if both transducers are on the back of the boat? I have a 14 foot Lund with a 15 horse Yamaha. I don't have a trolling motor, so nothing to mount it on to the front.

You probably will want to mount them as far apart as you can to help cut down on them interfence with each other. Probably isn't a bad idea to put one on each side of your motor.

Is there a transducer for the vex that is on a suction-cup or am I just dreaming?? Has anyone used anything like this?

Hossienda, I use my Vex in my jon boat on the city lakes & it works great. I used to use a little home made bracket on the outside of the boat to hold the transducer. But now I just shoot right through the hull & haven't noticed any signal loss at all. You can pick a level spot on the boat floor that's out of the way and epoxy it in. On my jon boat I epoxied a little 1" high piece of PVC to the floor & set the transducer in that. Put a little water in it & it reads right through the hull. That makes it real portable, so I just leave it on the blue box that I use in winter. Just an idea for a small boat or canoe. Vern

I have never actually saw a suction cup vex transducer but I have seen the suction cup transducers for other brands of locators. So I guess if you could find one of those brackets and then attach a Vex transducer somehow it would probably work.

If you have to drill holes for each transducer and you can seperate them from one side of the boat from the other, do that. I have a mounting plate on my boat and to minimize drilling more holes in my boat, I elected to place my FL-8 high speed ducer right next to the Lowrance. No problems at all with the two.

My Lowrance ducer next to another Lowrance ducer was big time interference! They were identical frequencies, so that was a given. I didn't mount those, I bought the boat that way

I bought a sucken cup for my 18 but I also had to buy a different transducer beside the cone it came with. I would have to say I m not totaly happy with it because when I want to use it Im normally up front using the troll motor the boats v is the problem
the trans ducer is not vertical and does not pick up the best read or my lure. if your going the buy a new mount mount it to trolling motor if dont have one You could do what my friend does leave the float on it. and plop it off the side of the boat he does not mount to any thing. this works really well when its calm or when the boat is ancred
