locating panfish in Cove Bay

Recommended Posts

I have fished crappies and sunfish in Cove Bay for ever. Went there yesterday for first time this year and puzzeld. I slowly moved though some of the reed beds that have historically been pock marked with beds but was put off by a ton of the green slimy stuff mentined elsewhere on our forums. The water was 68 degrees yesterday (Monday 6/4/12)late afternoon and it was pretty calm. Despite there being weeks in basically the whole bay I have trouble finding a typicaly week edge like I would in many surrounding lakes. Just seems all chocked up with weeks though not as toll yester day as they will soon get. tried several spots with popper (fly rod) and all I got attention from was tiney pearch.

Should I venture deeper into the fingers of Cove or push outard towards the rocky reefs? I khow that in the past, at least, there have been decent numbers of sunfish and crappies in there though has been years since I verified that, if I am honest. I could go elsewhere but it is close to our cabin, on south shore, and I have memories.

Any suggestions where to tap into panfish are welcome.
