Just got back from the Barn. They still need some work but they came through at the end against a very good team. Old Gophs would find away to loose it at the end. Maybe this is the year.My voice is a little tired out from today and yesterdays big win.If only the Gophs football team could have hung on we could have had 4 wins the past weekend. Go MINNESOTA..... First win in 3 years vs. magician state. Played some good d the final 5 minutes and took over the game. I was a little worried with 10 minutes to go.

yeah, start of the second half wasn't all so good. I was afraid we'd be the "old" gophs and cough up a big game after a stellar first half. Not sure if we're top ten material, but we'll find out. Big Ten is super tough this year, best conference in the nation, hands down.

17-14 halftime lead. More scoring by the Old Dutch Little Chippers than the two D1 team. Gophers need to rip this open and get the fullcourt game going.

Nice second half, blowing away NW. 69-51. Gophers put up 52 in the second half. Cleared the bench and everyone got in the books.

Nice game for Austin Hollins. He got hot and went 5-7 on 3's in the second half.

Tough game coming Wednesday night in Assembly Hall. Ohio State dropped their game this weekend in Champaign, could be tough for the Gophers. They will really need to clamp down on Illinois' talented guards. Illini go three guard lineup with Paul, Abrams, Richardson, and then bring Bertrand off the bench. They will need to play good defense and own the paint.

#8 in the AP Top 25. USA Coaches Today Poll #10. Tough game at Illinois #12AP, then at Indiana #5AP, then home with Michigan #2AP. Brutal stretch. Gotta get 1-2 of them if they want a crack at a Big Ten title.

Brutal schedule. If we can win 1 out of 3, i will be satisfied, 2 out of 3 I would be thrilled. A road win at IL or IN would be more than huge. Gotta defend your homecourt and play better than .500 ball on the road. To win the Big 10, you are going to have to go undefeated or maybe 1 loss at home, so that Mich game is big.

Gotta pound the glass tonight, keep up the strong O rebounding against a poor rebounding team and own the paint. This is a much more winnable game than at Indiana in my opinion.

84-67 whooping administered by the Gophers. Wow. I could hardly believe it as I listened. Could be the makings of a special team, regardless of what happens with impending matchups with the #5 and #2 teams in the country. A deep NCAA run would makes my long suffering on this board worth it to a degree.

Great execution on the road, awesome defense, and control of all facets of the game. Hoping for more this weekend in Bloomington.

I think Indiana will be tough to beat on the road. It looks like we are starting to get a little respect from the zebras. I hope they crush Michigan at home. I think Michigan is similar to Illinois, but have a better point guard.

Coleman was outstanding! Gophs are deep and you never know who's going to go off each night. It's about time Tubby!

I did not pay attention to this during the game but realized when I read the game recap. We did not score a single point from our bench players last night. This could be a problem if that trend continues.

Yea our bench may not be as deep as we thought it was. There was such a drop off in play last night between the starters and bench players. Eliason, Walker, Ingram, and Ahamisi all looked god awful during their time on the floor.

Good start. Watched the second half and loved that they weren't intimidated at all and kept attacking, even when Ill made their run.

I was thinking they would go 1-2 over this stretch, now I'm thinking 2-1. I think we'd all take only two losses for the season at that point.

This team is impressive!! Gonna be fun to see how far this squad goes after watchin too many years of mediocre Gopher basketball!

It's just tough to win on the road in the Big Ten, this team could be very dangerous in The Big Dance. Very dangerous.

They had a good run near the end, but not enough. No one is undefeated now. Duke and MI both lost. I hope they bounce back this Thurs.

Yup. Hopefully the Gophers learned their lesson at Indiana Saturday. You have to bring your "A" game every time out. Speaking of that, Indiana goes down in flames to the Badgers tonite and I couldn't be happier. Odd what can happen when you don't get the majority of the calls, someone guards your 3 pt. shooters tightly and you clang a bunch of free throws at critical times, even at home. Congrats to the Badgers! smile

Lets hope with the big ten season getting under way that they can step it up and show that they can be a contender for the ncaa turkey. Go gophers.

So far the Vegas lines have the Gophs to win by 3. Assuming that is the line for home and a way advantage, they must have them pretty equal.

It would be a HUGE win tomorrow night if they can pull it off.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
