The sad thing is, that he will forever have steroids mentioned with his MVP season from some stupid fans.

So was he proven he wasn't on the PEDS?

Not at all.

His specimen was not sent in soon enough (according to policy)

He got off on a technicality.

Is it fair that one player gets to cheat because of a technicality? either make him serve the due suspension, or just make PED's legal.

There were some interesting things said when he made his statement about being clear, he was honest about everything including his personal life, that pretty much sums that up, there were rumors that his STD medication was the reason he T-level were so high, was a very interesting story from start to finish

Another black eye to Baseball.

He admitted guilt and this is a bad precedent to go forward with.

He should be serving the 50 days.

IMO

He admitted guilt? I haven't seen or heard him do anything but profess his complete innocence.

When I read the articles about him being cleared it said the panel that ruled on the issue specifically didn't give a reason for their decision. It didn't say whether there was an issue in how the samples were handled or tested or in the time frame in which they were tested and it didn't say anything about any possible STD medication.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Braun being cleared.

I'm pretty sure he has claimed innocence this whole time. I believe what is going to come out is that the STD medication rumor is true. If that's the case, we need to move on, and drop this Braun steroid talk. It's MLB's fault this was overturned in the first place. If they want the players to follow the rules, they should to.

I may have misquoted that, for that I apolagize.

I just heard he offered to take a DNA test to prove his innocence that the sample wasn't his, then when MLB was contemplating that his lawyer and Ryan did a very quick reversal.

Who knows, but apparently he is having a news conference here shortly.

I will say MLB did drop the ball(no pun intended) on the process of the test and retention/transfer of the sample.

I just read the article on ESPN about Braun. Sounds like during the arbitration hearing he didn't dispute the science of the test but instead the chain of custody/timeframe for delivering the sample.

Also from how he was talking about being honest about his personal life throughout the investigation it really sounds like he had to tell them about some sort of embarassing situation that would have caused a false positive (STD medication for example). I'm sure he doesn't want those details to get to the media.

I heard the whole thing took so long because a law suit was filed by Braun's folks for breach of medical confidentiality rights by the testing facility blatantly outing a test that is suppose to be confidential.

Medical records are a big deal these days.

I see Braun getting some serious CASH from the testing agency.

As is in most decisions based on legality there is a difference between innocent and not guilty. If indeed Braun had to be administered a medication for an STD there is a provision in baseball testing regs that he notify and have a medical form filled out to reflect possible problems resulting from taking this medication. he did not fill out and receive medical clearance to take that medication. I do agree that baseball is responsible for this testing screw upand this problem needs to be addressed by baseball and not Braun.

Key word, used to own. Do you really think Bud wants this type of negative media on the MLB testing process. Come on.

Again there is no conflict of interest here, no story.

like when he used to own the brewers while the twins were gonna be contracted. the biggest beneficiary out of that whole deal would've been the brewers expanding their market 10 fold.

baseball is no stranger to bad press during bud's tenure.

Remind me again why Pete Rose was banned FOR LIFE?

Because it was concluded that he bet on MLB baseball games which is forbidden and carries a lifetime ban. And to make matters worse and the reason he is not in the hall today is he repeatably lied time and time again when all he had to do was admit he bet on baseball.

In a nutshell his stubborn EGO was just to big to say I did it and I'm sorry. In which in todays world means you get a 2nd chance. smirk

I wonder how many people in baseball bet on baseball now, knowing the consequences.

50 day suspension? Please. There is a easy way to curb the roid use --- raise the stakes. Of course, that would require MLB to actually want to stop it... Which they obviously don't.

I agree, a one year ban up to a lifetime ban if caught with PEDs. But that would still not stop the use of PEDs. I am guessing the players union won't allow this.

A no whining, no excuse lifetime ban would stop it.

and might make players think twice about the flaxseed oil their trainers hand them.

I’ve fished this lake one week a year, at the end of July, for the last 8 years.  We stay at Timber Bay Lodge and I have fished the SE part of the lake, all the way up to the Stony River. I almost solely target walleye.  I say almost because I will fish bass or northern at times for fun.  I’ve yet to target crappie on this lake and this year will be the first. I’ve caught a handful of big crappie by accident on this lake.  I’ve heard they are in there.  For walleye, I’ve typically used Lindy Rig with crawler or leech, and Jighead with a minnow. I typically tie a 3-5 ft leader, red hook, gold bead, 1/4 oz weight. If the wind and waves kick up I’ll use 1/2 ounce weight.   I’ve often used a worm harness with gold or silver spinner too.  Sometime I’ll throw crankbaits and that can the ticket. If I’m covering a flat I’ll use lindys or harnesses, if I’m hitting specific points and structures I’ll use a jighead.  I’ve had the best luck in 8ft to 14ft but every year is different.  For the record, I’ve never caught a huge walleye on this lake.  I’ve caught countless eaters.  But I’ve yet to connect with many big ones.  I know they are in there.  It seems like each year the fish are hot in June to mid July.  Since we go at the end of July, we can be in the doldrums of Summer, so perhaps this is why Ive missed many big ones.  There’s also a chance I’m targeting the wrong areas.  Who knows.  As for areas, I’ll typically target shorelines that have been hit by the wind for the day, or previous day.  If I work an area for 15-20 min with little results, move on.  I’ve experienced the fish stacking up on very specific points before too.  If a point is holding fish, don’t be afraid to drift a small area and use your motor to return to the starting point, over and over.  I’ve done this many times and limited out in an hour.  One thing I have noticed is that the walleyes don’t seem to be active in the early morning.  In fact, the best action I’ve seen has been 10am to 1pm, and 6pm to 9pm.  I’ve never fished after dark. I have fished as early as 6 am on this lake and do not connect with the walleyes.  I’m guessing it’s due to the dark water and low visibility.  I hope this has been helpful and welcome other advice.  If anyone would like to add or refute, feel free.  This has been my experience on this lake and I’m welcome to hear other tactics,  I’d also love some advice on the crappie.  Where and what time of day?  Best of luck on your trip.

We're heading to the East side of Rainy, boat camping next week. Just curious if the walleyes are on the reefs and what baits are being used? Any updates would be appreciated.

Muskies-  Any advice on a good place to stay on Rainy? Was supposed to stay on Canadian side this week and obviously didn’t go. So now I am trying to put together a quick trip with my Dad on MN side maybe later this month instead...

It was in about 12 feet of water I estimated. 100 feet or so I'd say off shore. I kick myself....I wanted to get the pic so bad I didn't hit a waypoint. But it would be easy to find again.

How close to comet island was it?  If I remember the story correctly comet island was named after one of Aronsons early motor boats named “comet” hit the island and sank.  I think the story was in one of the lake vermilion history books the timberjay published about 15 years ago.
    • james_walleye
Just off the west side of comet
    • gimruis
I was able to talk to my Father about his days at LOTW.  He and my Mother caught 12 walleyes in 3 days over 27 inches, plus numerous other smaller ones.  Didn't catch a single sauger.  They caught them jigging, spinner rigs, and on lead core.  Lead core seemed to catch the bigger fish as they use bigger crank baits that weed out the smaller fish.  It was calm all 5 days so they could get to and fish just about anywhere they wanted to without any difficulty.
    • mbeyer
Vermilion is a "no brainer" when it comes to smallmouth. You'll be fine in early August. What is your favorite way ti catch bass? Start with that and work from there. One of my favorites is a white/pearl fluke...they eat those things up.
    • jkrash
is that out front of Mckinley park?
    • HunterFisher11
So looking at some property on long lake right by Ottertail lake and wondering how the fishing is on it and the depths on it? Thanks for any information!!!!
