Aitkin Snow Report

Recommended Posts

Hey-

Just checking to see what you got for snow on the ground around the Aitking area. Looking to do a snowmobile/fishing trip. Possible?

Thanks,

CC

I drove thru on Sunday and there's maybe 3-4" on the ground? Big Sandy was not really rideable, bare ice everywhere.

From what I have heard people are still doing quite a bit of driving out on Sandy with sleds and wheelers. Though not sure how fun it would be to get going fast and hit a bald spot.

5-6 inches, lakes are the only spots to ride, and its best to stay near shore where there is more snow. lots of spinning and slideing out on the lakes with a few inches of snow on bare ice, and drifts here and there to roll you if you slide into one, so open lake riding is slow ride, faster near shore.

Yeah it was pretty slippery out there. Even after that snow that came down, once the wind picked up, the bald spots returned. Id say 30 is as fast as I would feel safe going out there. Did notice that a few very foolish people have been going over the open water right below the bridge on bridge road.
