The rivers in my area have never froze over completely this year. They have froze and reopened many times. I would have to say that riding the rivers is only asking for trouble.

Well the good part is that in most places this year the level hasn't fluctuated and is no more than a few feet on the straight stretches.

This could be said at any time of the year on the river.

I grew up on the sandcreek and the minnesota river and used to ride them on and off but it was always a scary deal because you never knew what was happening under the ice around you.

Not to mention all the dead heads sticking up outta the ice and they call em dead heads for a reason wink

This year is going to be the saddest year so far as ice goes in a long time if you do venture out please dont do it alone and let somebody know what ansd where you'll be. Its also a good tro have a plan of action just in case that everyone with is aware of.

Snowmobiling can be so much fun but its not worth losing your life over.

Just got back from a drive from the north redwood road to the highway 71 bridge. Quite a bit of open water yet. Most are narrow areas but go on for a long ways. Especially one corner that is open on one side all the way. I wouldnt recommend this stretch, cant tell you what its like from 71 to the east. If you do decide to try an area could you give us a report. Thanks

tryed to run river west of new ulm yesterday, snow was nice but so much open water had to turn around, long stretches and open water around corners, with the warm temps coming this week, it will even get worse , might be first year that the river is pretty much unridable mad
