Lazer Heater

Fourplay

Question

I have a 10,000 Btu Lazer heater in my 6x6 permanent fishhouse. I just got this house this year. The heater doesn't keep the house very warm so I'm wondering if it's working right. My Mr. heater is supposed to be 9000 Btu's on low and it gets to hot with that so why won't my Lazer heater warm the house up. Any ideas?

Anyone have one of these? I'm wondering if there's something wrong with mine or if it's just a weak heater. According to the literature it should be good for up to a 6x8.

Never used a Lazer heater, but here are a couple things to note:

Your Mr. Heater Buddy puts out 9,000 btus on high, not on low, unless you're talking about a model I've not heard of.

A 10,000 btu heater should heat a permanent that size OK, if it has any insulation at all and is fairly tight, but it would take awhile to warm it up and you wouldn't be fishing in your shirtsleeves.

10,000 btu's should be more than enough to heat your house. I believe the Lazer heater is sold by Strikemaster. I would give them a call and see what they have to say. They are very good to work with and have good customer service. Good luck!

I believe the Mr. Heater is the sunflower style. How long have you used the Mr. Heater. You may have it malfunctioning. Mine tends to run on only one Temp.

Honestly I don't think that the 9000 will keep you constantly warm I've had to use a lantern and the small (pre-buddy) Mr. heater to keep my 3x5 warm. Jsut my past experience.

My Mr Heater sunflower head gets my house so hot it about cooks you out of there on low. That's a 1 year old Mr. Heater and works great. My lazer heater won't even keep the holes open over night. I end up redrilling them everyday and my house is banked very well. Probably just need a bigger heater I guess. Just figured 10,000 should be enough for that small of a house.

Fourplay,

I hear what you're saying sir. From the sounds of it, your heater isn't working properly. I, as you have said, run a Mr. Heater cooker on low in a house with some big tears in the canvas, and even on breezy days it can get pretty warm in there, even with the cooker set on low, or the 9,000BTU setting.

So, theoretically, @ 10,000 BTU's, you should be roasting pretty toasty. Maybe try an exchange on the unit, or like Lady' said, give the manufacturer a call and ask them.

Whichever way, I hope it works out for you.

I also have been having the same problem. I have the 20,000 btu unit and a 8x8 house that is insulated well and banked. I am going to try running a small fan to circulate the air as someone else suggested on this message board.

I too have the 20000 btu and have problems, It seems to be cold,(6x8) and fumes about drive ya nuts. I have called and talked to them about it and they said the punched out spot on the back may be bent closed, checked that and found it to be only open 1/8" corrected that, still fumes, and not getting very warm, decided to shorten the length of stovepipe outside to 6" from 12" thinking that the cold was stoping flow?? nothing has helped. this unit has a 1 1/4"-1 1/2" opening on an elbow fitting for the burner. by the sounds of it others are having problems with the stikemaster heaters, (over rated btu's?!) 20000 should be great plenty for 6x8.

20,000 BTU heaters for a 6x8 and it's not getting warm in there?! Something's gotta be wrong. We use a Mr. Heater in a 8x8 and after warm up, run it on low.

I did call strikemaster and was told that my particular heater just doesn't get very hot and as long as the flame is blue there's nothing I can do. I think the heater should have a 3000 btu rating instead of 10000 because it puts out about as much heat as my 3000 btu coleman blackcat.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
