Conversion of Hummingbird 597 ci HD for Ice Fishing.

Question

rocstar

I have a Hummingbird 597ciHD GPS/Mapping/Locator on my boat. Does anyone have any experience with using this unit for ice fishing? I see it has an ice flasher mode. Was wondering if it is worth my time and money to buy an ice transducer for it, a spare mounting system and a battery. I see there is a Portable Conversion Kit available for around $120 but it does not come with the ice transducer.

On the Hummingbird web site there are 2, $75 ice ducers & a list of which unit they work with. I just got one for the PM160 portable & will use it 1st time today.

Be sure to let us know how it works out for you. With the Lake Master chip in the unit it sure could be nice for searching out on the ice.

It will make a tremendous ice fishing rig, but you are gonna find out, that few guys that convert their graphs to ice fishing application use the circular chart.

When you get it set up correctly,(and it will take some setting up, because there are quite a few more menu options) I doubtyou will never use a circular again.

luv my 597 ci HD. been learning a lot the past month bout diff't screens/split screens like 83/200hz, bottom zoom/regular screen, & chart plotter/sonar screen. also nice tip is easier to read when background is black as well, i have not really tried the flasher screen yet.

I would surmise the slop bays across from the resort would be good for largies.  Crappies, next bay down from resort to the right of the point with the giant mansion on it.     Smallies, any rocky shoreline or rock pile, for example  Windsock Island and vicinity. Pike, various weedy areas mostly although I have never had much luck deep in the slop.      Maybe some of the folks who go the LOR will chime in.   At least you didn't ask where to catch walleye on the west end. 😊

Went out Walleye fishing Saturday night and I caught this beauty. Measured 45 1/4" and estimated weight of close to 30#'s. Fought it for over 40 minutes. Caught on 6 pound line with a #4 hook. What an epic battle.

Going for some largemouth on pike lake near duluth tomorrow if I could get some advice that would be nice. Never fished it before

So island was kind of a bust when I went a few weekends ago. It could be the fishermen or could be just bad fishing

I know all those areas well.  I'm a Parsippany~ish kid myself.  Traffic did suck when the commute was 40 one way- now just 5.5, all backroads. @Wanderer Hey for boat rentals a license isn't needed?  I have my NJ boat lisc, but doubt they'd honor it.... To ALL!  Thanks for all the replies and help here... sooo looking forward to the trip. I will  indeed look closer as the time draws nearer, and omg, I would love to be a boat buddy (we say boat b!tch), and consider this my "ask".. Thanks again fellas! Tight lines!   Mr Mayor

Even serious anglers get seriously lonely. Fished too many metro lakes and beyond to count. Fishing has always Kept me sane and sober, its what I and I do it well. Recently moved, wondering if there's anyone out there who might wanna swap some tips, tricks, and hopefully some big ones. Not very good at this kind of stuff but hey, what do I got to lose by asking?!  Thanks, M.E.

Loved across the street from it for years, on timbershore lane. I've caught monsters, several shore spots if you know where to findem. I just moved to inver grove heights and am looking for someone (or more!) To go back asap and catch some whoppers

I've ice fished it a few times, this year actually. It's unnamed crappies and northerns, it's true it's private land but I've never had any trouble, guys in the buildings parking lot always waved to me.
