Anyone been out Snowshow rabbit hunting? Those poor things must be sticking out like snow balls right now. Mother nature kind of played a bad trick on them this year! frownsmile

No doubt they are easy prey for the hunter

Well according to the amount of replies there aren't a whole lot of people out there trying for them either? May have to go out after some before it really does snow! wink

Powerstroke

I've been out a couple times late in the season for various reasons and I have yet to see a bunny. I did see a small weasel of some kind that was a hawk or owl kill that had been dropped. Not sure why he couldn't find it since it was the only white thing on the ground, but who knows.

When I was a kid I loved hunting snowshoes, especially late in the year with no snow. They were also everywhere back then. Like Powestroke, I've yet to see one this year out hunting.

We use to hunt them up in the Badoura State Forest when most of the pines were really small and the place was infested with them. We would actually do drives with about 8 guys and they would come popping out of everywhere. Man, I would love to get into them like that again! smile

I used to own 40 acres just outta Hackensak and it was really good shoe hunting around that area also. I could never find enough guys to do the drive thing but thats how we do cottontails in southern minnesota drive them like deer and let the posters have fun

Last weekend we went for snowshoes north of Duluth, there was actually a couple inches of snow but it was cloudy and they just weren't out

Haven't had the opportunity to get to our land since deer firearms season.. was planning on trying to hunt rabbits for the first time ever this winter, grand delusions of trekking across 3' high snow in my snowshoes, tracking after a fresh snowfall, and getting a few in the early morning hours with a blowgun.

At least I've had the opportunity to give ice fishing a few tries this year.

This surprises me Borch.  5-6 years ago when I was  living in the St. Cloud area, if you looked up "Mr. Consistency"  in the dictionary, your mugshot would come up.  Things must be all whacked out.

I am a catfish guy, but until now, i was unaware that i can legally use small bullheads for bait. However, I have never actually targeted them before, so i am just wondering if anyone knows of any "hotspots" for bullheads (if there is such a thing)

Pretty quiet in here.  I've been fishing out of town the past 2 weeks.  Hope to fish the area lakes this week.  Heard reports of a good day crank bite on the chain but not much else.  With the full moon coming up this week may try some evening trolling.  Anyone else having any luck?

Haven’t fished the river for weeks and came home to high, muddy water so I doubt I will for another week.  I’d focus on shorelines and whatever backwater I could find at this time if I did go.

It was slow for me Tuesday afternoon and Thursday in Frazer / Smarts Bay. Wednesday was very good in 20-25 feet leeches / crawlers on a Lindy or a jig. Absolutely beautiful weather!

My wife and I had a good morning on Friday with bottom bouncers, spinners and crawlers in 20-24 ft.  Caught 9, threw back 3 18-19 in, 2 13-14 in.

I would head over the hill into the back country and fish the streams and lakes. You will have much better success catching fish. Bring bug spray

Lori has some nice gills and some okay crappies normally. Green has nicer sized crappies and gills. Ann lake has been kicking out some great fish. Check out fishing club.

Streams won’t have much of anything to offer this time of year. Maybe a couple tiny smolt rainbows. There are all kinds of shorefishing spots in the area though. Stream mouths are always the obvious spots to try. Spoons and spinners.

How was the trip? I was on the lake Tuesday and the weather was as good as it gets!
