geo,

Whether it can be pulled out with a wheeler or not is dependent on what it has for tongue weight.

Geo if you run into any problems just ask- We will have a wheeler up there around noon on Friday that will be able to get you out for sure. Paul just shoot chris a text or me (Justin) an email if you need any help getting this guy out.

Justin...that is awesome to hear. i appreciate it and hopefully we won't need to interupt your fishing. if you see a black trophy hunter on the ice come over and enjoy a coctail with us.

Hoping next weekend the fishing is still going strong.

Coming up to Appeldoorn's for the weekend.

Initially planned for the New Years weekend, but had to delay.

Will not be having my 2 favorite fisher-people with (wife & daughter), too close from daughters recovery from surgery.

Hoping to be able to drive trucks by then, but if not the wheeler is ready.

Save some for me, please.

I'll be staying at Apples this coming weekend as well. Looking forward to it. Where are their houses located at? Shaws, Doe area? I'll be coming up early friday and walking on, but the group will be arriving later in the afternoon. Will parking be available friday morning and someone to collect the fee also?

That's probably because he uses an older 2007 version of LakeMaster which doesn't have the updated name.

Ice and road conditions- 1/010/2012

Looks like we will have a full house of FM'ers

We currently have 14 inches of ice in the bay and out past 2 Mile. We are seeing some cracking and spidering of the ice sheet due to temperature fluctuations and the lack of any snow cover. We are still only allowing 4 wheelers and snowmobiles out but we hope to be open to light vehicle traffic by the weekend. All of our rentals are out and we have started to pull private houses out.

We currently are staked out to Shaw's Reef and also out to 2 Mile. We will complete staking Doe Island Reef tomorrow afternoon.

Ice conditions are changing daily so please check in and get up to date information wherever you are accessing the lake.

I'm thinking about making a trip for sunday-monday. Maybe with these low temps coming we can get small vehicles out there.

I'll be keeping an eye on the reports!

Forewheeler is hooked up. I'll be there early friday morning.

I'm staying with Jordon R. 8h delux and 4h 4bed. Will you charge me parking friday morning? If so, no problem, whats the earliest i can show up at appledorns to pay for parking, and do you charge parking over the weekend if your staying in a house? I was going to call thursday night and ask these questions, but maybe we can take care of it here. Black Bravada, trailer in tow.

Thanks,

Andy

PB, I'll probably be pushing out of there by 10am sunday... i think that is when we have to leave the house. I'll need a nice nap sunday afternoon i'm sure, but if the bite is hot it might change my mind. I'm going up friday to get some good fishing before the group shows up, since we've got a group of 10 guys going (all younger than 30yrs old grin ) - there will be more beer drinking than fishing goin on i think and it will require some recovery time! sleep

Now if you were coming up friday...

grin There won't be any fish left on that gravel bar from the sounds of it!

Cabin 13, I'll keep that in mind. We'll be in 19 and some others in 4. I think there's 3 more coming up in a custom camper too.

Probably be heading back home by 10am or before on Sunday.

Think we are in house 11 if I am not mistaken.

It will be a 40 something(me) and my son in law and his friend, both in their 20's.

Actually going to try to fish most of the weekend, there will be a few beers being tipped back I am sure too.

Hopefully Adam and I will be there by noon. His friend will be up later.

Hopefully the house 13 isn't too close to ours... crazy

O come on rippinlip. We aren't gonna get loud and out of control. Most of us are after the fish rather than the buzz.

No thats cool, I just want to have fun this weekend, but going to try to fish some too.

I was even thinking off bringing up a golf club or 2 and seeing if I could drive a ball a couple of miles....lol

Maybe a putting tournament on the ice....

Catch a fish, a buzz and have some fun.......sounds like a plan to me.

Don't fret I will have a few very cold Northern Beers somewhere around wink

I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

      No, that wasn't me.  I drive a 621 Ranger.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
    • smurfy
got mine done........for the cabin.....ready for summer festivities!!!!!!   there was still frost in the ground...........but good gawd are the lakes low!!!!!
    • CigarGuy
      Just 1, 50" muskie🫣
