I took the road out to seven mile around threeo clock and got a couple eyes, one too big and one too small, but then as darkness started to set in the tulies lit up the flasher, man I love catching tulies, them poor fish fight like a ton of bricks, then have a grand maul seizure when you pull them out of the water, so much fun, I can't wait to hit the tulies again.

Weekend report out on 7 mile . Four eyes for the bucket from 14 to 18 inches and two jumbos at 11 inches . Also the tulies were on fire brought ten home for the meat market to smoke up. They were hammering jigging spoons with larva or fatheads on the depp break lines on many flats on the central to west side of lake. Perch were not schooled up. Winner at the PE was 1.4 lbs I believe !!!

From the looks of it the bite has went shallow in the last 24 hours:

Nordern, is of course joking. Those houses are staged and ready to come off the lake. I can see mine on the pic above, just where I left it.

Yep, mine is sitting there too!. I hope I can pull it out for at least 2 more weekends. The walleye bite has best the best in years for me and I want at least 1 more weekend.

Agreed, definitely my best year as well. Didn't break my PB. But I caught way more walleyes and perch this year that past years.

I'm sure you realize this, but walleye season is over! You can't fish for them any more this season! smile

Paul,

How are travel conditions for full size trucks after this snow? I was thinking of coming up on Saturday to hit some perch. How has the perch bite been?

Paul I see on your web cam that there is some large equipment out on the ice, look to be installing lage poles, is this for a dock or fishing platform?

Looks like I'm not the only one wondering.

Putting in a couple of new docks. They will be permanent pier type giving us more dock space and a place to tie up are launch and just maybe something else coming down the pipeline if I can get the details hammered out.

Kinda fun watching the progress on your web cam, seen the orange truck that is drilling the holes broke thru a few times today. looks like this will be a nice and heavy duty dock system that will last for years.

      That's why I said it's very unrealistic.

If that was tried I would guess that the Band would be in court very fast to get the boundary dispute settled. Then all of URL could be Bands waters. If you're going to poke a sleeping bear better be prepared for him to wake up.

Well this is 5 years old but does talk about the long term history of the problem, not just Red Lake.   https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjyntGNzafmAhVsp1kKHXHkC44QFjADegQIBRAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.startribune.com%2Fmay-3-2013-fishy-trade-in-walleyes-persists-up-north%2F205903751%2F&usg=AOvVaw3ZqjwEw_5vfkNmB2fCEjN4

I feel it would be best to shut down commercial fishing from red lake and simply have the natives follow the same regs as everyone else. You could say this is unrealistic, but you asked for what I think and this is my opinion. Another alternative I see is let the natives have lrl to do whatever they want with and compromise so everyone else gets access to the entirety of url with the same regs for everyone and a closing to commercial fishing. Then we see 20 years down the road how each lake is doing. This is obviously also very unrealistic, but I'd love to see it happend.

Shouldn't there be some kind of tribal need number? After all, isn't this Hunting, fishing-gathering thing really all about subsistence living?  🤔
    • kelly-p
So what do you feel should be the cap for the number of pounds of walleyes the Band can harvest from the Red Lakes?

Looking for ice conditions on the west end around Taylor and Schmidt's islands, hoping to get out there around the holidays. Thanks

yup and with more snow coming ugly!!  I made mine from a small sleeper off a semi...  and it's on a steel frame with wheels...  so it does have some weight..

I wish I could tell all of you I got a big one, but I talked myself out of it due to the deep snow.  Where I go up there there is no plowing, and I figured I had enough with a deer from Wisconsin and one from Michigan already.  Maybe next year!
