Vermillion river to clear lake

Recommended Posts

Has anyone boated from the Vermilion river from the boat landing at Etter to Clear Lake. Used to fish Clear lake in my youth but accessed through farmers yard he had coffee can dropped money took oars off wall of the barn and hopped in a leaky jon boat. We caught some nice pike in August due to the springs upwelling along the bank. Would like to go there again.

^X2 it might have been doable with high water but as the water continues to drop i wouldnt try it at more than a snails speed. good luck and let us know if you try it.

Went today. Shallowest water was 4 ft. Clear lake is still flooded into the woods. Only 1 small pike in upper clear lake. Caught nice walleye trolling on vermilion. Threw back a sauger ,white bass and a 6 to 8 lb chanell. We went full speed on way home. 16 ft Lund with 30hp

I have an update for Vermilion to Clear lake we tried unsuccessfully Sat. Water is very low and its back to canoe or perhaps smaller than 16 ft boat we did not want to wade it across shallow bars we got 3/4 of the way there then turned around and fished the bridge area. I have caught white bass in the vermilion but not large mouth. I have not tried for them either.

this is the first year that i have caught some largies out of dushanes. Nothing to big and as the water levels have dropped so has the number of fish. I havnt gotten into one since early september. I have caught a couple smallies over the years as well, but nothing with any size to speak of.

Dushanes is always good for a couple largemouths. My personal best came from there a few years ago. Otherwise they've mostly averaged about 10 inches.

I went down there in mid November for my last trip of open water. The river was way down. I stopped a few times to pole through the sand bars. I got down to Clear but it was 1.5 FOW. Nice day but no fish. I tried for pike.

Well most people use a fish head or two in the trap as bait.  Any type of raw  meat will probably work well. No need to purge them as they are coming out of clean water. Just boil the whole crawdad in salt water or better yet in a Cajun mix! The tails are about the only part worth messing with. Cliff

I live on Little Cormorant Lake, I believe sometime next week that it will be open.  The lakes out there are changing fast!

we got a lot snow down in the twin cities than up north and temps are a lot higher than it was in 2013.   I think we will have enough open water to fish the opener.   No one needs to cancel!  I HOPE any way

what do you use for bait?  I heard you can't use left over fish guts.   do you have to soak them?  sorry not sure what that process is called.

meerkat, Many people eat the rusties. Very tasty but like walleye wings it takes a lot for a meal! Cliff

I just got an e-mail from Brent Flatten in the Tower Fisheries Office stating that they hope to get the Dock in by Monday if the river clears of ice. Will set the trap nets on Tuesday and the first net lift will be on Wednesday. They may even collect eggs Wednesday if there are enough ripe females. Very good news! Thanks for your update Brent! I would imagine the man made pepin connected to the sippi is open not the actual lake pepin?
