24 volt Question

Here is one that I could use an electrical wizards input on. I have 24 volt front and rear trolling motors. The rear won't work unless the front trolling motor is plugged in. However, when I check, I have power coming into the rear plug on both leads. Idea's???. When I purchased the boat, it only had a front trolling motor, recently adding the rear. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It must be wired like this then...

The four prong plugs usually have an internal jumper that creates 24volts when the plug is inserted. You can make 24 volts all the time if you remove the negative wire from battery 1 and positive wire from battery 2 and run a jumper directly from the negative of 1 to positive of 2.
