Keeping outdoor dogs cool

What do you guys do to keep your friends and hunting partners cool in this weather? I have a gsp. She has a run in the garage, and a run outside with a doggy door. I have a fan in the garage, and when I get home from work in the evening, I wet her down with a garden hose. Shes not big into water, so the kiddie pool doesn't work. Just wondering what others do

I have a similar set up to you with the garage kennel and an outside kennel with a doggie door. I brought her inside today and put her in the small kennel. It is just too dang hot for her out there.

Air conditioning. grin And a good supply of water.

My dog is pretty heat tolerant - her short hair and almost all white coat helps - and spends most of her time outside, even in this heat. She comes in occasionally for a period of time to lay down and get more water and then she wants out again.

The key is a good supply of cool drinking water. Getting their belly and head wet with cool water can help too.

Fresh water in a bowl they cant tip over.

Could always supply access to a kiddy pool. At least the option would be there if he/she is unbearably hot.

I have the indoor outdoor kennel as well but I actually put a window unit AC through the garage wall so I can crank that all day on these ridiculous days. The garage is well insulated and with the AC when I get home from work the temp has maintained in the low 80's. Not real cool but better than outside! 3 large bowls of cold water each morning as well, and a fan blowing in the garage helps too.

I ended up buying a pool this afternoon for the pooch. He seems to like it. Hops in and just chills out. He's normally very hyper but this was just what the doctor ordered. He didn't have a care in the world once in there.

when someone cares for their animal in this fashion it makes my day. they are part of the family and your example of the pool shows carring and great love for their pet. thanks. good luck.

I would think freezing some gallon milk jugs and throwing them in the bedding area would work fairly well.

I just throw my dogs in the pool too. I often find the laying in the pool without any water, waiting for me to fill it up!

Springer Spaniels and Golden Retrievers are hard to keep cool in 100+ degree humid weather.

I wasn't sure if anywhere would have little pools in stock with the heat, but I stopped at a Menards and they had about 60 of the little 4-5ft ones. $10.

We had the inside/out combo kennel growing up, and we always had the pool in it during the summer for our Golden. Never a problem.
