Schuster's built a huge sleeper that can be viewed on their web site. I took a look inside of it last winter. I think it is 12x24 and has a separate bathroom attached. You need to go outside and into a door from the outside. it even had a propane cook stove I believe. It had u-shaped bunks on one end and slept 6 people. If the fish bit better at night, I would have it reserved myself. Check it out!!

I recommend looking at the Jigging Spoon thread for jigs/spoons and colors of all sorts. Also see the "Things to do on the big pond" by Fisky.
JHansel

Hi folks,
I'm going up to LOTW on the weekend of Feb 7 to do some ice fishing for walleyes and/or saugers with my buddies. I want to do some research and gather some info from some knowledgeable people. We'll be fishing out of Baudette. I realize that there are lots of variables to fishing and that February is a long ways away and things can change but I'd still appreciate anyone's input.
We usually rent a sleeper house and stay on the ice a couple days. Any outfitters/resorts to recommend or that stand out over the others for sleeper ice fishing houses? We've used Steve Sweet, Dan Gibbins, and one year we went over to Arneson's. Any others to suggest? Who puts you on the fish the best and who has the "nicest" houses?
Can anyone tell me what generally works best at that time of year for lures and bait. Jigs, spoons, rattles, glow in the dark, or plain hook? Is there a particular color that works the best? What depths produce walleyes that time of year?
Thanks and any input is greatly appreciated.
Gspman

Use ant thing that glows. We were up there also in Feb last year. The locals that fish the lake a lot said to use ant thing that glows.I would say check out schusters. They really run a great bussines. They got some very good ice fishing packages with meal plains. We are going to up up there the 15th through the 20th of Dec.

Hey guys Jason from Gibbins Ice Fishing here. Happy to say the ice is out there with at least 9 or 10 inches as of today. We tried our stab at a little fishing this afternoon after pulling some houses out. As of our houses, I think they are the nicest on the lake. You can check them out on our website at www.gibbinsicefishing.com If you have any other questions email us or give us a call at 218-634-COLD FISH ON!!! Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
