Pout presentation?

Had my best pout luck in 20-28 feet last year with a red(pink) glow devil that I ordered on this site. Used minnow heads or minnow tails and seemed to hammer them. I was going for walleyes but you can't beat a good 'pout fight! My record last year with this lure in 23' was 5 pout in two hours. I was fishing with a big group and each pout is a 5 dollar penalty fish, so it got kind of expensive. These guys go $5 for all non-walleye/sauger so its kind of a spendy week, unless you get the big fish of the week, then its a pretty cheap week and you usually have $$ left over for soveniers.

Anything that glows and is on or near bottom will catch the tasty cod. Mushed minnow or smelt on a glow jighead is my fav. No messing with trebles in that tuff mouth. I have seen them rise up 4' to hit baits though. Usually in clearer waters.

I'd say my best Pout producer is a single hook forage minnow in glow with pink and blue on the one side, baited with a half a shiner AND a lively Chub. A recipe for some good eating anyways!!!<P>Fisky

Last year we used a big glow demon with whole minnow and pulled in some big ones. One was 15 and the another was 10 lbs. Fishin for the eyes, anger did ensue when we figured it was a pout. oh yeah, 31ft of water.<p>[This message has been edited by WhaTT! (edited 12-01-2003).]
