Bear, Scott I want the old black hawk logo on your avator with long live the fighting Sioux for your signatures after this weekend. Don't think I forgot about the bet. Thanks smile

BTW No crossing off the logo either or any other funny stuff.

Yah. If you will ill do that.

I'm all talk. If I'm there I'll be stuck cheer for the stinking sioux. I will compare the experience to a visit to the dentist though.

I consulted a free internet lawyer and I am only contractually obligated to surrender my signature.

However like Scott said I will put my avatar on the chopping block if you will. We win we get your avatar, you win you get our sig and avatar. Deal?

I lived in Bemidji for 5 years starting in 2000. Fished red Lake every week during the hay day. Ive caught crappies that could eat your average bass. Big enough where the lips are kissing the bottom of the 5gl pail and the tail is tipping the top. In case you dont have a pail in front of you. I believe they are 17.5" to 18".

On any lake besides Red. 15.5 is mighty big for me.

It sounds like the teams are having open practice to the public today from 11 to 4 at the excel.

Scott those are huge crappie. My biggest is about 15 inches out of Red lake of course.

I know what your doing Bear. Your not dealing with a moron here but what the he11. I'll do signatures and you two have to do the avator and signatures. We'll just go a month.

So as someone on the outside, what is the final bet? I heard mention of service of being crappie-baiter? Any takers on that?

Hate trying to catch up on conversations here. Silly work keeps getting in the way.

Here is my free internet lawyers interpretation.

If the Sioux win the NC brooks will have full control of our sig and avatar for a month.

Should the Sioux fail to win we get his sig for a month.

Pretty far from the original bet but that is how things go when you let free internet lawyers get involved.

That is the deal right there. It has gotten pretty personal(yeah right)with the internet lawyers LOL. It would be a great tribute to UND being the final year of the logo and nickname to have a couple of hatters such as Bear and Scott showing there support for the Fighting Sioux. Of course IF I win the bet smile

The best part about this whole thing is Brooks took a bet he probably should not have won and won it, then went double or nothing but suddenly nothing turned into something and he could end up losing everything. Ok everything is a little dramatic for an internet signature but for a couple of losers scott and I have played this pretty well.

I was never a good gambler. You should have seen some of the hands that I turned in poker. No one could tell if I was bluffing or just didn't know what the he11 is going.

On a semi-related note, puck drops in LESS THAN 24 HOURS. This might be Ho-Hum for a Sioux fan that happens to go every other year, but I'm going nuts!

Finally!!! I'm so freaking anxious, I doubt I'll sleep tonight. It's been a while since a team I closely follow, and have been a huge fan of ( since the '80's), has won it all - hopefully, this is the time.

If the Sioux should fall, I hope UMD gets the Championship for the WCHA. It should be a fun time. Hopefully the Sioux are focused, play their positions, move there feet, stay out of the box and bury scoring opportunities. Go Sioux!

Absolutely!

But if the Sioux don't fall, I want them to meet the Dogs for an all-WCHA NCAA championship game. Go Sioux! Go Dogs!

I mean, it's not like the Sioux would be playing the STINKING GOPHERS or anything. Ugh that! gringrin

Which of the WCHA teams left can take it one game at a time without looking ahead? Would be really hard as a player not too look past Thursday.

Glad to hear you Sioux fans are as pumped as I am.

Solbes how do you like your teams chance of winning for tomorrow?

Oh man, I don't know. I think the coach has a lot to do with getting the team into the proper state of mind. Sandy's had pretty good success in the NCAA's with their smaller program. They were up 2 goals on Denver in their last F4 appearance but ended up losing at the end.

I'd say pretty good chances tonight, but like I said they can't be looking ahead at all. If they would have played the game right after the regionals they would have rolled onward. Who can really say after a 2 week break?

Don't worry solbes, it's the Frozen Four I don't think any of these guys are looking ahead.

This isn't a slight to the WCHA coaches but Berenson and Jackson have far far more experience and 4 titles between them so you have to give a nod to the CCHA with a coaching advantage.

You do have to give the WCHA the edge in high end skill, both ND and UMD have the talent to put them over the top. It should be a fun couple of games today.

Go Dogs!

Wow, I didn't know Jackson was Lake Superior's coach that won the 2 titles way back. I knew he had taken the Irish to the F4 once in '08.

Yep same guy, dude just wins everywhere he goes.

Plus he just looks like a hard azz. Sandelin better bring his A game or this old timer will whoop him.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
