Probably have to sit this one out. Get back fron sodak snow geese late Wed and plan on leaving for nodak camp on Friday. Doesn't leave a lot of time to clean and repack gear if I try to make Thursday games. If weather stays cold at camp, I will definitely go to championship game.

Shorelunch is in and sounds like a couple of maybes. Duluth better win that first game now or I'm going to be crying in my bee...oops I mean soda.

Duluth v No Dak would be a great thing to watch. I would be a little nervous about that matchup when I think back to the complete domination by black in the final days of 2010. Different Duluth team now hopefully.

Everything just started over. It's a two-game season for the championship, and the past doesn't matter. That's the idea, anyway. I'd like to see the Dogs and Sioux go at it again. smile

I would like to see an all-WCHA final. We won't be seeing too many more of these in the future... mad (still fuming about the big ten)

Why would you now be more nervous about the Big Ten? Afraid the new Penn St. team is going to grow into a national powerhouse? winkgrin

Although we would like to see an all WCHA final, that matchup will cause the NCAA/ESPN to reformat the tourney brackets to even further prevent it.

Thats absurd Bryce. I agree a decade or so ago there was an occasional mild attempt by the NCAA to not have the WCHA dominate the tourney but it's laughable to blame our embarrassing play in the last 5 years in the NCAA's on the NCAA.

Its a long shot I think. I'm going through UND to get tixs. They use a priorty point system. Beasically if you donate alot of money to the UND(this is not me) you get first choice. Tickets would be face value. I refuse to pay $500 for tixs. I'm kind of a cheap bastard like that. If I go I will let you know. The muskie Expo makes it more attractive.

]I always feel like they are against the wcha too.

Most parents think there kids are better than they are and think the world is stacked against them toooooooo.....so I get the argument as weak as it is.

Bottom line nothing is stacked against the WCHA and our play as conference of late is proof in the pudding!

Go Dogs!

Ok, maybe we do have a distorted veiw since we are all WCHArs here (or at least most of us), but when they would consistently pit all WCHA teams against eachother, it was a littl obcious what the intent was. It really got going the year after the whole Frozen Four was WCHA. I don't think ESPN (or their beloved Eatern market) liked that.

ESPN - WHAT WE WANT YOU TO SEE!!! sick

Until this year PB. WCHA will be back to being the dominate league in my opinion. The freshman class this year is stacked. More NHLers come from the WCHA as well. I saw a state recently somewhere.

I don't think the brackets were tweak too much this year like they were in the past. It looked like the pairwise went along with the brackets. It was just by chance that UND/Dnver and CC/UNO were in the same bracket. I think BC got the shaft this year because New Hampshire was hosting so BC had to go to St Louis. Kind of funny hearing the BC fans complain about that one.

Pier first of all, All Aboard Bulldogs. Love to have ya'.

Second, I agree with some of the others here that there was a shift by the NCAA committee in how they seed the WCHA by regionals. Obviously you'd have to be a fly on the wall inside the meetings to know for sure, but here's how it looks. Years with an * had a WCHA national champion.

1996: 2 WCHA teams in 2 brackets

1997: 4 in 4*

1998: 3 in 3

1999: 3 in 3

2000: 3 in 3*

2001: 5 in 4

2002: 4 in 2*

2003: 5 in 4*

2004: 5 in 3*

2005: 5 in 4* This was the year we had an all WCHA F4, and would mark the year of suspected NCAA policy shift in grouping schools in regionals

2006: 4 in 2*

2007: 3 in 2

2008: 6 in 4 (6 teams they had to fill all 4 or risk outcry!)

2009: 3 in 2

2010: 4 in 3

2011: 5 in 3

From 1996 - 2005, only 2 times out of 10 were the WCHA teams not spread fully across the regionals. From 2006-2011, five times out of six had the WCHA teams not fully expanded across the regionals. The one year they did fully expand, 2008, they pretty much had to. There were 6 teams! Looks like a shift to me. I don't blame them for the lack of a recent national champion (I blame BC), but it can be frustrating to teams within the conference and fans nonetheless.

I just think it's good to see Pierre wink finally back in here. You should know to bring better game than that though.

I tell you right now I'm not paying more then $150 to go to those games. ill gladly watch at the bar or just go in for free and not have a seat. $500 that is crazy. Its probally more fun at the bar anyway at that rate.

Tis expen$$ive, that's for sure. I thought the session strip tickets at original prices were okay, a little under $200. You're looking at $67/per game for that. I paid more than that for a Wild game a few weeks ago. This inflated $400-500 for a single strip ticket is re-donkulous. You gotta dislike all these ticket outlets that make getting tickets so d%^@ expensive.

I figure at UMD's F4 rate, I could go once every 10 years but I would also have to pay for airfare and hotel. That makes this opportunity far cheaper.

That is terrible to charge that much. Sucks the ncaa needs to make so much money off this. They only alloted each school 600 tickets. What that a section or 2. That's why I love the final 5 vs this tourny. 800 sioux fans tried to buy 600 tickets in gf, I'm sure the dogs could get 600 as well. Sounds like a lot of people are going to be paying out of their arses to go. Hopefully it isn't too much of an oldman crowd. You gotta have some students in there too.

I here ya solbes. This isn't a chance you are gonna se again. The odds came out good so far for the dogs. You gotta fork over the dow and go to this one. Since your spending so much already, maybe you'd like to buy brooks and I a couple of seats.

I have heard of people picking up tickets fairly cheap from the losing teams fans after the semi-final games. You have to be on your toes and get there before the scalpers but it might be possible.

Wow I just checked Clisters. It's double or triple what the prices were on Saturday evening. They are priced so high right now that even older fans making good money will have a hard time justifying the trip.

I'd throw a couple of 2 night session tickets at you guys for face value, $400 for 2, but even the standing drink rail tickets are gone now. I shoulda ordered more on Sat. It would be a great time that's for sure. Drink rail without drinks. Kinda stupid.

Also I just checked through UMD's website for ticket availability since I'm a contributing alum. They are so in demand that they are only taking requests from Season Ticket holders and they are put on a waiting list. So deadend there.

I agree 600 tickets to each of the schools is not enough for an arena that holds 19,5k people. It's the only way students have a chance of going if they didn't plan ahead and buy tickets.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
