NCAA Tourny

Kind of funny how it started... Grew up near St. Cloud and went to all the Huskies games before D1 was even a conversation. So the Gophers weren't my team outta the gates, but since the Huskies weren't playing against them yet I rooted for everyone else... Then I began to see the stlye of play UND put forth. That was it hooked at the age of 7, now 25 years later it keeps getting stronger! Even went to college in Mankato and rooted against my own school smile. I have some family in Winnipeg so the Canadian players are all good with me... I sure hope they can put together a Tourney this year the last six have been a nightmare!!!

I like it Jag. I can't think of a better reason to like a team than for there style. Go Sioux

Yup, a good goalie in the NCAA's is like a get out of jail free card. Unless you have 3 lines that score night in and night out, you almost need that hot goalie to bail you out when you can only squeak out 1 or 2 goals.

I visited with Blais just for a minute. Is it just me or is he a little intimidating? Seemed like I was talking to more then just a college hockey coach. Hard to explain.

I came out asked if he was going to save the Gophs.....a chuckle is all I could get.

Yes Brooks, I am still big time.

Jag, I cant believe you have been confused and brain washed for 25 years. That sounds like permanent damage now.

My wife just asked me "Are you looking at fishing porn again?" She just rolls her eyes. She would really be mad if she knew I was only here for the hockey forum right now. I think she is afraid of hockey - she doesn't want her kids to grow up and play for the gophers!

For Goodness sake, please get Blais and Guentzel to make their case to Maturi. Someone has to talk some sense into that man. You are kind of big time, hope you can still hang with the little people that got you there smile

I'm still try to find a way to get the wife to rub my back while I type on here.....she's still at the stage where she turns the computer off on me though. Yah, she found out I was on talking hockey and fishing and was pretty mad. Darn wives.

If I run into blais at the 4 I am going to recruit him to coach. If uno is there id have to lay off tho. I don't think he'd like that.

The question is what would you do if you ran across Maturi at 4AM?

So many ideas and so little time before daylight arrives.

Does anybody have any info on streaming some of these games whistle? Mainly the ones on ESPN 3.

I was wandering if there were any other ones. I'll give those a shot. Thanks

CBrooks, if you're in NoDak, the games are on ABC - WDAZ/WDAY, etc.

If you're not, PM me and I'll tell you the "work around" for ESPN3.

PM sent. Thanks Shorelunch. Grand Forks is getting the RPI game but ESPN wouldn't give the local rights for the winner of that game should UND win. That one would be on ESPNU. I think the UMD game is on ESPN3 today at 2 PM. If I get a streamline and anybody at work needs a link just asked. I'll PM you. I'm ready for some WCHA whopping up on some Ivy schools. Go Dogs.

Well if your in Grand Forks there isn't a possible way to get streamlining direct from ESPN 3 or ESPN360. I tried going to there website to sign up and it would have been good but if your cable company(internet provider) isn't affiliated with ESPN(there's over a hundred that are)you can't get it. I think there's only four cable companies that aren't affiliated with ESPN and Grand Forks is one, midcontinent, they have the monopoly in GF. I bet the "Justin TV" will have it smile

UMD is playing on ESPN-U today at 2pm central. It also looks to be streamed on ESPN3 online.

I see UND on ESPN3 online for tomorrow also.

I hope for the WCHA whooping up on ECAC, but I seem to remember the Dogs having to score 2 goals to tie up and eventually beat Princeton within 40 seconds of regulation. And I seem to remember Yale doing a number on you know who last year. So I'm a little guarded.

Uh-oh. They must of switch it from ESPNU. Not good for me.

Union is no slouch this year, they had a nice win over my pathetic gophers.

All of the regional games are on ESPN3 (online) and all of the games are on ESPNU (tv) - some are live and some are tape-delayed - and some are syndicated.

In ND, the Saturday Sioux/RPI games are on ABC affiliates and something called MASN on satellite. Sunday's UND game (hopefully) is on ESPNU and ESPN3.

If you have Midco cable, you need the "preferred package" for ESPNU.

Union has the best PP in the nation and Duluth's PK is very vanilla. Key to the game for UMD is to keep their feet moving and stay out of the box. Even more so if the refs are East coast.

IMO Union is alot better then yale... Yale can score, and thats about it. Union can score and has good goal tending, which is something yale lacks.

Who ever wins the union vs duluth game is going to win the region imo. I also think I have to go with union winning. In recent years there has always been a wcha team that gets upset and I can see duluth being that team this year.

Yah, that is a tough region for me. I am thinkging union over Yale if it happens, I am rooting Dogs over them all though.

5 minutes to game time.

Anybody find a stream anywhere besides espn3? Apparently they aren't friendly with my ISP or I just can't get through for some unknown reason.

Great day to work from home. UMD-Union still tied at zero. UMD taking too many penalites though.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
