Anyone experience this when ice fishing ?
OVS or Aqua vu colored lites scaring the fish. IR lites seem to be OK

this is true. my friend and i take the camera out once in while in our permanent house on millacs. We keep the camera down one of holes turned off. When we pick up a fish on the vexilar, we turn the camera on. at night when the infra red lights are necessary, the fish are spooked immediately when the multicolor lights are turned on.

I have also been told that the colored IRs spook fish and the clear ones don't. Gills dissapear when the colored IRs are turned on.

WOW! GOOD QUESTION! Just yesterday I experienced the same thing. The Vex was loaded with crappie. The bite was real light and few and far between. I figured as long as I wasn't catching anything maybe I could learn somthing. Sure enough I did. I switched between the three choices of lights a few times just to see how much the lights helped or hindered. Next thing I know the fish are all gone, so I shut the camera off. Within a minute or two they were all back again. I tried this a couple times just to see if the test was accurate. Turn on HI VU fish go away. Turn HI VU off one minute later fish all seemed to return.

I do love my motorized camera control. Thats awesome!

The OVS 500 underwater camera by Marcu technologies has this as part of the package.
It is a 10" arm that fits over the ice hole
that has a motor that turns the camera cable.On the monitor ,left and right arrow
keys allows you to turn the camera, plus on screen info as to direction. Great tool and a great underwater camera package. Look it up on their web.

The rotating arm is great! Takes time away from lifting and moving. I haven't had any occurances with scaring fish but have witnessed it happen a couple times when fishing with friends. You could try rigging the camera facing stright down?

I've done a bit of research on this and it seems that sometimes it bothers them and others not. Just have to test each situation and see how the fish react. Hows that for an answer.

The picture on the camera seems to pretty good. My buddy fishes with a Vista Cam,I've used as Aqua View in the past and I couldn't really say that any one was better than the other as far as picture quality. What I like about the Marcum is the screen size,portability, and the motorized camera control.

I have a OVS 300. Your post is correct. The red and green lights will spook fish but the IR will not. If you are fishing in clear water, instead of viewing fish from the side, tie the camera so that it is pointing downward and view your bait from 7 to 10 feet above (you will have to view closer during night time). This way the fish do not see your camera. This works very well at Mille Lacs.

I don't know this for a fact since I don't have the muliti color lights in my camera. But I think you really have to leave those lights on when your fishing you can't just flip them on anything that abrupt will spook them. I think that if you leave the lights on the whole time it is in the water you will be better than just flipping them on.

on the aquavu's.....can all of them be used for Ice fishin or just the Ice pro Series?? cuz i would like 1 wit the Depht on the side...would be nice...if not...i guess i live......

Tell ya what..IF ya want depth get yourself
a vexilar 18 or marcum lx-3 locator b4 ya buy a camera.. For 4 bills or so, you could have the best,just with out the picture.Or if ya already have a locator.check out the new 460 or 560 marcum camera. I think most fisherman will agree locator first, camera
second.a camera will just enhance what your locator has told ya already...

well....right now i got....a Fishing Buddy 2200 which i use for fishin in the summer....and this will be 1st year for it on the ice ....so i guess...the camera doesnt have to have the detph......so the Ice Series camera is the way to go

MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

      On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

      Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
