last nite me and another bronson boy, walked out onto bronson and drilled some holes, there was 3.5 maybe 4, now the dnr says 4 inches is safe to walk, but how much is enough for u guys

I will walk out on 3 to 4 inches of good clear ice if there are'nt any signs of potential troubles. Always error on the side of life however. Did you do any fishing? If so how did those cucumbers work!
fiskyknut

plan on fishing on sunday, drove up there after school yesterday so didnt have time to drop one in

I'm just joking around you know! Those cucumber posts sometime back were just too darn funny to ever forget! Did you get to see them Mr Mink? What are your succeses as to the power of Cucs' as bait for catching those BIG Bronson Pike. I can't remember for sure, but was'nt it a 54 incher or something like that that fell to a tipup baited with a cucumber?
Whatever happened to the Bronson Boys, are they now using an aka on the forums?
Good luck Sunday....Fisky

Hey there, you are still around! Good luck Sunday to you as well! So what are the dates for the derby out that way on Lake Bronson this winter? Sorry PP, but when the Mink mentioned the Bronson Boys that cucumber post flashed back immediately!!!
Fisky

Posted

howdy fisky, well the derby usually aint till middle of feb. due to not having ppl falling threw the ice. "safety first"... ha
as for us, we'll be out there sunday sunday sunday!!!
i'll haul one up fer 'ya!
best of luck
------------------
-dont take 'em all

Well if that ice is good clear ice and there are no hazards like springs, current and things of this nature around that area I'd probably do it. Don't walk too close together, or sit on one anothers lap!!! Safety gear is a good idea on early ice always. Supposed to be down to single digits for lows the next couple nites so you may find a bit more than the other day.
Be careful....Fisky

Well PP at least that fishtale did'nt grow any bigger, eh! I have'nt told to many people this, but I caught a very big Walleye a few years back. I released this fish after taking a picture and we did'nt have a scale in the boat that day. It was very large and very heavy, though I'm not sure of the weight, it was so big the Picture alone weighed 5 pounds!!!
Fisky

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
