Ice as far as I could see out from the Wigwam a week ago Sunday. Locked in good over near Morris and on bostic. folks were fishing Zippel I heard. Mainlake was wide open. We did'nt get too warm and windy since then but I don't know whats happened since that day. I'm gonna spin over and check it out in the next day or 2 or 3. Doubtful I'll take a walk out onto 4mile but I'm bringing a little gear and a hand auger in case.<P>fiskyknut

I'm putting my boat in at Kenora this weekend, they are still open! I can't wait.<P>------------------<BR>Hemlock<BR>"Throw'm back"

I think the boat might get froze in hemlock. Better call someone befor you go up there. Since you may be new to the area when the temp drops below 32 degrees water gets hard which will also happen in kenora. Canadians are not Immune to this Phenomena.

I was up Sunday and there was ice as far as<BR>you could see from Warroad and from Long Point.<P>The ice already looked pretty rough.<P>If not this weekend, I would imagine the<BR>there would be lots of people out the first<BR>weekend in Dec<P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Things froze around Kenora Friday night. There was half an inch then, and I didn't check it Sunday when I left, sorry. I would imagine with the temps, at least 2" if not more. It won't be long. Also, I know they were going to and from Flag Island up at the angle on Saturday on sleds. SO, there's definately ice in places. But be careful, eh!<P>------------------<BR>Hemlock<BR>"Throw'm back"

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion.  Ice was in very good condition.  Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park.  There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing.  The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out.  The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island.  There is a short spur road going east about half mile out.   The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes.  Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher.  The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight.  You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas.  There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off.  Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them.   Fishing was average.  Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit.  Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75".  Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes.   Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
