You will also find Adrians, Border View and Walleye retreat in the same area. I would call real quick as they do book fast. I almost forgot Riverbend where we have gone for the past four years. I booked 4 trips last year for this year and the only problem I had was around the Xmas holidays, we got the last cabin. Late Jan, Feb and March were not a real problem. You can access resort locator above and it will give you most of the phone numbers. Hope you pound 'em and don't forget to put some back for seed...Good luck and hang on. Bill

Ethan, Arnesons is aka Rock harbor lodge, thats out on Rocky point near Babblers road....Remember. Like I told you in that email there can be quite a difference in the bite around the Pine island area early in the season like you're thinking this year, compared to the time of year you were up last time you were out that way. I think you will find the fishing much different than your last trip to Pine when you told me it was a bit dissapointing. Fishing is Fishing, not catching, and there are always tough days. To offer you some ecouragement as to the fishing around Pine/Morris in December, I will tell you that my personal biggest Walleye of the ENTIRE season last year came out off that Pine island area in December, and I fish at least 3 days a week up here, and all over the U.S side. This fish was 30.5 inches, and believe it or not I lost one bigger an hour before icing this one, and I caught at least 40 other fish that afternoon ta boot. 2pm till just before sundown is all I fished that day.
I would bet money you will get into the fish. Some days in December it is downright the easiest Walleye fishing in the world!
Like Bill said you better get on your booking soon. Check our resort locator page, anything with a 634 prefix is the Baudette area resorts, most are located north of town out near the Wheelers point area strung along the lower end of the river.
Relax, you'll like it in December. Does anyone else agree Ethan should be able to get some fish out here in December? I know Bill will!

If you can't catch fish in June, and December... You better take up golf, and bowling.

That sums it up very well, good one WT! So are you in one of the leagues this winter then? LOL

Frisky:
I'm actually in a golf league in the summer, and it's a total blast... I look forward to Wednesday nights... Boys night out!
I'm getting the ice-fishing itch pretty bad though... Even set my otter up in the yard the other night. Turned the lights, and heat on, and got all my gear organized...
Even got my early christmas present in the mail the other day... A shiny new Mustang Suit.
Bring on some ice... I think I still remember how to catch first ice eyes...

Cool, those Mustangs are very nice, and could save a guys life too if he got caught in a jam eh.
I'm antsy bigtime. I may not remember, but it should'nt take more than a day or 2 for me to catch back on though!
Supposed to get down to single digits the next couple of nites anyways, that'll help.
Frisky

The Mustang suits are pretty cool. I've been meaning to get one for years, finally broke down and got one... (broke being the key word) As much time as I spend messing around cold water situations, I thought it would be a good investment.

No doubt a good investment for a crazed yahoo such as yourself Dave....just kidding! I should break down and get one myself, good to wear in the boat during coldwater periods too just in case. Money well spent, just don't get too close to any sunflower heads!
Fisky

Ethan: I know you will have a good time on LOW and like Fisky said fishing is fishing but you can really get into some nice action this time of the year. No doubt you will probably catch lots of small fish as well, but any bite is better than sitting for hours just wishing to see the bobber move. Last year in Feb we were catching a variety of size in Saugers and eyes all day. At 400pm my son set the hook on his dead stick and 25 minutes lates we iced a 41" gator. that will definitley get the heart rate up 100 beats or so. So even though the small dinks can be a pain once in awhile you never know what the next hook set will bring. I hope you will come to enjoy this lake as much as I have and have a tremendous time. Good luck and hang on. Bill

That's cute. My mother in law had all those little sayings. Her favorite was "Life's a betch then you die" so cheery. 😏

Hey now, that one is all you! Haha! Don’t make another thread septic. 😉 Yup, the Looper Bug. I couldn’t remember that catchy name for it. 2lb test is a little crazy, especially for the line quality back then but I can see that being a thing too. Such clear water. Looking down the hole watching the fish swim around and them looking back at you. The further out I got, the easier it was for them to see me. My one looper charged in when my jig was just below the ice while I was laying face down like you said. It hit basically right in front of my face. The fight was me rolling over and pulling it out of the hole. That was shortly before the guys in the shallows packed up their little black shelters and left with their fish. So, by the end of the day I learned: black looper bug; light line; conceal movement; and/or fish shallow. And then never went back.

Cuz like I said, he was breaking off a lot and they were like gold at the time. Guys an't giving up anything when combat fishing, I'm sure he pissed off some folks running around jumping in and out of open holes. 😉

🤔why didnt ya "leech" some of them black flies from the guy!!!!!🤗😂 awe come on....wanderer would of said it too!!!!😉

Au, yes the black fly, aka the looper bug. I remember the first time I was introduced to it. There must have been 20-30 guys out in front of the French on the ice. This one guy was running from hole to hole and pulling fish, but he was also breaking off a lot. When I finally got close to him, he said he had 2lb line and just the bug on the end and jigging. I think I had about 6lb line and some jig with waxies. I jumped in my Suv and buzzed up to the bait store in Two harbors "which is closed now" to get new line and bugs. By the time I got back and fishing again the bite must have been over! Spent the rest of the day laying on the ice staring down the hole, ton's of fish went by but not bite!! ☹️ I used to get up at like 3:00am to drive up from Brooklyn Center, fish until dark and drive home. When I had more of the wander spirit. Heck I remember when I had no brains or money in the spring, getting up at like 2:30am, driving up and fishing every stream for about an hour that I could get to from Duluth to Grand Marais. Then driving all the way home the same day. 🤪

Last day of myself hunting before I help my friend with new clients. Back on the bigger marsh, mainly teal but 5 fulvous whistling ducks. A medium size duck but they fly and decoy like Canada geese, big circles and glide in. They are noisey birds

Kettle, sounds like an awesome trip. Never see drake bluewings in MN during the season. For the bridge my pucker factor would've been 11, and that's walking across both ways!!
