Paynesville area lakes

Recommended Posts

I will be staying in Paynesville this weekend and would like to do some fishing. I was thinking about trying Koronis but have never fished the lake. Are there any trouble spots to be aware of? Any suggestions on where to start? I have a lake map and see there is a lot of structure. I am looking to find some crappies and maybe a few Walleyes. I am not dead set on that lake, so and am open to other suggestions. Any help I can get would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! I will be sure to post when I get back.

Try asking this question in the St Cloud forum as it is closer and you will recieve more accurate information.

Try asking this question in the St Cloud forum as it is closer...

No,Tom, Paynesville is closer to Willmar. Info on lakes to NW of it might be better in St. Cloud forum, but Koronis is much closer to Willmar, and info is always scarce, which I respect.

Koronis is usually producing something but I might also throw Rice in the mix as well. Always seems to produce fish.

On a side note, Willmar is a half hour from Koronis, St. Cloud is 50 minutes. Sorry but St. Cloud is not closer.

I also thought about rice. A similar question is already posted in the St. Cloud forum. I thought I would try both. Thanks for the suggestion though

Due to the fact that you couldn't catch a fish if it was froze to the ice at your feet....I would just stay home if I were you. gringringrin

But if you must..I'd go to Rice. Email or text me and I'll tell you what I've heard.

Correction

Willmar is 33 minutes to Paynesville and St. Cloud is 31 minutes from Paynesville = St. Cloud 2 minutes closer. I have only made the drive over 500 times in my life.

Thanks

Too bad koronis is 5 miles south of paynesville. So willmar is 3 min closer. Also, most of the willmar lakes talked about on this forum are north of willmar

I have it figured out guys... It takes longer to drive from Willmar to Paynesville than from St. Cloud to Paynesville. distance is about the same, but stopping at DQ or Mels in Spicer is a must, and will cost a person at least 5 minutes of drive time. Now that we have that figured out, here is the report:

Nels-Bels gave me a report of a good bite on Koronis, and I have learned from previous experiences with Nels that I should avoid his report. Long story short... I fished Rice from about 1-5 on saturday. By my count there were about 100+ houses on the lake. They were split about 50-50 between the two main communities. We got on a break from 8'-30' and fished in from 20'-24'. We marked fish almost oonstantly all day but could not buy a bite. Threw everything at them and only caught a few perch. Nothing on minnows. also tried euros and waxies. It was still a fun day on the lake. I would like to try it again on a day when there is not so much noise on the ice.

Just trying to help the guy out.

Sorry.

Seems to be just as much info or more in the St Cloud forum and I was simply hoping the OP would find the most information for himself.

Time to put this whole distance and time thing to rest! I just drove from St Cloud to Willmar and thought I would time my trip! It took me 27 minutes to get from the HW 23 exit off of 94 to the A&W in Paynesville. It took me 27 minutes from there to get to Super America on 1st street in Willmar. That being said, I was on the very outskirts of St Cloud when I started timing and I was well into Willmar when I stopped.

The trip may be a few minutes faster from Willmar...but we are talking about a few minutes. Thus, this thread is justifiable in both forums and isn't worth bickering over!
