Red Lake Fishing Report for 1/21/11 - 1/23/11

Back home from Red Lake with Beacon Harbor Resort in Waskish. Fishing Report for 1/21/11 - 1/23/11. I was happy with the fishing considering it was -33 on friday and -42 degrees on saturday morning, and just as cold on sunday. Marked a lot of fish but it was tough to get them to do more then come and look at the bait. Probably the toughest weekend we have ever had fishing Red Lake. Its amazing that even on a lake as good and productive as Red how a good cold front can still shut them down. We had a big fish fry on saturday night. Ended up taking home our limits with a hand full of over walleyes, about a dozen perch, and one 30 inch pike. With a total of 17 walleyes iced. A few misses recorded due to the light bite ( that's what we keep telling our self). By the sounds of it we did better than a lot of people on the lake, so we feel pretty fortunate for what we got. If anyone is planning on going up to Red Lake you should definitely check out Beacon Harbor www.beaconharborwaskish.com. They have great 4 man sleeper fish houses and six cozy motel rooms and three spacious kitchenettes all for a great price. They also have a very nice heated fish cleaning room. Dean with Beacon works really hard to put his customers on the fish, and has GREAT customer service. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about going up to Red Lake to check out Beacon Harbor Resort.

Did you know that there is a slot on the northerns on red lake? 26-40 inches must be released you were illegal if it was thirty.

Upper Red Lake State Waters Winter Angling Regulations Effective, December 2010 – February 2011

Walleye- Four walleye daily limit; fish 17 to 26 inches must be

immediately released. A statewide possession limit may only include four Red Lake walleye (only one larger than 26 inches).

Northern pike- All northern pike 26 to 40 inches must be immediately released.Anglers may possess

Yes I did know that as I make 3 trips a year to red. It went back in the water. Never said anything about keeping it. I guess I should of put (caught) about a dozen perch, and one 30 inch pike.
