Appeldoorn weekend report

Well our trip to Mille Lacs was a ton of fun, thanks Paul and Appeldoorns for a great set up. Fishing overall was slow but not dead by any means. Two of us ended up with a dozen perch and 4 walleyes. 1 walleye and 7 perch were kept in a day and a half of fishing. Highlight was catching a nice perch as I was setting my depth with a depth bomb on. Other was my biggest pike through the ice. I decided that if fishing was going to be slow I would try for something BIG. I put an 8" sucker about 3' off the bottom with a steel leader on my bigger rod and reel. I was jigging in my other hole when i saw a huge blurb on my Vexilar. I looked behind me to see line flying off my reel. End result was a pig northern that was a fat and healthy as can be. Neither me or my buddy had a scale, measuring tape or camera so he ran to the next shack to have a nice guy come and take a quick pick. I also held her up to a 36" scale in the house. She was over on both sides and also slumped in the middle while i held her up. I got her back in the water right away then and she took off perfectly. Im guessing 39" and maybe 18 lbs.full-36633-5257-millelacsnorthern.jpg

Note to self " Next time fishing is slow try green depth bomb " LOL

I actually put one on from time to time and just pound the bottom with it. It seems to work, or at least doesn't seem to harm it when fishing is slow. The noise and clutter sometimes brings in the perch, makes them curious.
