Fishing with Jerry Brandt

A group of us will be fishing out of Brandts this upcoming weekend. I understand the houses will be set up near 4 mile. We plan on moving around on Saturday during the day in our portables and seeing if we cant find something. What are thoughts on staying near the fish house in that 4 & 5 mile area? Or should we venture out further and see what we can find? There will be 10 us us and we will have 5 portables, so we could all go different directions, but would rather fish together since that is the reason for the trip.

Freedom, If Jerry is there he will point you to where the fish have been. He has never steered me wrong. He figures that since you came up, there is no sense in playing the Long Time favorite "Mille Lacs vow of silence" on what is going on lake. If you get one of the girls that simply take road pass money, they will be able to point you to where the lake is and that is about it.

Just fished 4 mile gravel on Sunday. There are a lot of tullibees set up on the 30 ft range, and you would most likely get into the jumbos as well. We only caught one small walleye that day, but it was so cold that we didn't move around. Stay on the move and drill out an area in the 30-32 ft depths and you should catch fish. We saw fish on the electronics all day here, just not alot of willing biters

We went out of Brandts this weekend and on Friday the girls in the shack said 4 mile was unproductive, so we went out to 5 mile. The next day the girls said 4 mile picked up though.

From Friday until Yesterday afternoon we only had a handful of perch and 1 keeper eye.

We marked fish all weekend but I think the weather & pressure changes screwed up the bite for us.

I was up last weekend as well and set up east of 5 mile in 30'. Very cold so we didn't fish outside the house with the exception of one tip up box (only produced 1 flag). Lost one nice fish jigging Friday evening. had a rattle around 4am but found that holes started to skim over causing the fish to drop the bait. Cleared the holes & sealed drafts and caught a 28" eye on a large shiner moments later. Ended up with 5 perch and one keeper eye when we left Sunday a.m. Saw fish on the camera, but pretty slow. I would split up for 2-3 hours to see who can get on some fish, compare notes and then fish together. Moving around during the day is definitely to your advantage.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. We have a couple guys going up on Friday afternoon to get on the lake early and punch some holes before everyone gets there. Hopefully with the information we get from Jerry, and those guys looking for fish on Friday we get something to bite. I dont mind "fishing" at all, but I would like to do some "catching" this weekend.
