Crappies good real early in the am and late into the evening. Walleyes have been rather slow.

  • 2 weeks later...

We went out today and got a 18 1/2 in walleye at about 6 in the afternoon. Other than that we caught a small perch and small walleye. It was very cold.

I'm not really sure it wasn't my rod but I think it was just a green and white and red jig with a shiner minnow. Have you fished out there a lot bloom?

Was out on Pike tonight as well. Kept two 16 inch walleyes caught 3 other small ones and a hand full of perch. Not a bad night out on the frozen tundra. Hope everyone else out there is bringin' em' through da ice and into the frying pan. See ya out there.

I used to fish PL alot more but haven't much since I discovered lake Superior fishing.

Pike is full of smallish perch and bluegills. As a walleye lake, those tend to be small and scattered but easier going in summer. Through ice, if memory serves, it was mostly perch.

Off topic...does anybody know if they stock walleyes in Pike?

This past summer I just mostly stayed around Duluth. Even with the warmer temps, I still did ok on the lakers. I'm usually out before sunrise and back in by breakfast grin

For some reason, I seemed to catch more salmon last year than others. Mostly early and a couple when that mass of cold water blew into Duluth in August

Was back out on Pike again this morning. Sunny and a great day to be out on the lake. Fished from 7am till about 1130am off the point in about 22 feet of water. Caught 4 walleyes right when i set up but all were around 12 or 13 inches and i threw them back. Ended up running into alot of perch and actually kept four 9" inchers four 10" inchers and two right around 11 1/2" inches. Hope everyone else is doing well out there. Hope to see ya out there.

Doesn't sounds like a bad morning out there Deaner. Seems like I haven't caught much more than a cold this winter. I've been looking to get out to Pike again here, if you have an extra seat next time you go out let me know. What kind of tackle have you been using?

Pike was producing again last night. went out for about 3 hours and we decided to try a new spot. Caught a nice 28" inch pike on a tip up in about 6 feet of water on a tip up. In the house we kept 13 perch all between 9-11 inches. also caught two walleyes that were right around 12" inches but we threw them back. another good outing on pike, just cant get enough of this lake. Hope everyone else is reelin' em' in.

Does anybody know if there is any northern fishing on Pike?

I know Scott at Fisherman's Corner used to have one on the wall in his store that was caught on Pike and I knew they used to spear them but I haven't heard of one coming out of there in ages

there are not many pike in this lake but the ones in there are big. if you look at the latest test netting by the dnr [2009] there were only 6 northerns captured and all were over 30 inches. good luck.

Pike was not producin today. went out with hottoddytipup and like he said we only caught 15 perch and one small 7 inch eye. lots of houses out of the point now. hope everyone had a better day than we did. After the frustration of drilling countless holes and only catchin perch I'm gunna have to head out of this minnesota winter for a week.

Anybody going to the big jig sunday. Wish there was another way to get on the lake plan on riding out there in the am. That way while I am out there waiting can have some fun. Besides no need for parking.

Went out to pike again tonight with a buddy. Out there from 6pm to 9pm. Tried a spot off a break where no one else was even near us. Drop went from 10 to 22 feet really quick so we fished at 22ftow. Caught 3 walleyes, one 15 inch and two 9 inchers. Fun little night out on the ice. Got to bring one home for the frying pan. Gunna head back out there midday tomorrow. Hope fishin' is goin well for everyone.

Crappies are hard to find this time of year on Pike. I'm surprised you are even catching Walleyes, it seems like they are around but they never bite.
