This afternoon my son and I fished for a few hours on Forest Lake in Grand Rapids. Normally, the water in Forest Lake is pretty clear. I wasn't prepared for what we encountered.

When we drilled each hole, cloudy reddish/grayish water came up. It left some kind of film or debris on the ice shavings around the hole as well. It was really pretty nasty looking and unlike anything I've ever seen.

Is something getting into the lake that shouldn't? It certainly didn't resemble any road deicer I've ever seen. Any ideas what's going on?

It didn't seem to harm the fish. We caught a few teeny weenie crappies, sunnies, and perch.
