Lorance H2O problems

pikerliker

Question

I have a Lowrance ifinder H2O and have an issue. I purchased it new in 08 and bought a used navionics map chip from a co-worker (mid west states). I have noticed almost since I bought it that what reads out for depth on my H2O does not match the depth reading that I am getting on my sonar. I recently have noticed that my position is off quite a ways. I was recently driving on the ice about 100 ft or so parallel to the shoreline on a local lake. My H2O showed my position as about 100 ft or more on the land side. So in short it was a minimum of 200 ft off from my actual position. These units are supposed to be accurate within a couple of feet. My question is do you think it's the map chip or the H2O itself?

Thanks ~piker

My guess is the chip. If you are not on a High Definition mapped lake with your H2O it is pretty much guess work. When you use it on a HD lake the coordinates should be close to the depths. When I used mine on Winni you could drill holes at the right depth.

When you have a signal if you look at the screen that shows what satellites your locked into it gives a distance of accuracy. If you are not locked into many satellites (but still enough to give you a location) your location will not be as precise and it will appear you aren't in the "real" location". You very well may be locked into numerous satellites and this may not be the problem but I have the same unit and this is the only issue I have every experienced.

I had the same issue with location being off. I believe it was a satilite issue I turned it off and just let it start the lock in process again and it worked. I guess if that doesnt work you may have issues with the chip

Would guess it's the GPS as many probs as they have with that unit. Mine always read couple hundred feet of position error before it finally wouldn't lock on anymore. The new Hummingbird reads 6-9 ft error in the fish house.
