Almost ruined my auger

Eric Wettschreck

Question

Strikemaster mag 2000.

My recoil spring broke so I took it all apart to make some repairs. While I had the gas tank and the recoil off I decided to clean out the carb since, you know, what the heck it's right there. When I put it all back together I misaligned the bolts going through the spacer between the jug and the carb and installed the spacer "Cockeyed" to the jug. Things in there are pretty small and my eyes arn't what they used to be. I thought I had everything in there properly but I was wrong.

It started and ran. Ran kind of poorly but it still ran. I drilled out some holes and went fishing. A couple of days later I brought the auger to work to thaw it out in the shop. I was cleaning things up when I noticed what I had done. Took it all apart and put it back together the right way. I pulled the plug and the electrode was almost burnt off it was running that lean.

Just posting this in here so yous guys can learn from my mistake. Those bolts are small and not real easy to align. Make sure you have them in properly or you can burn things up in a hurry.

Maybe a little PBR into the fuel tank Eric. I heard it works for everything. wink

Maybe that PBR was in the wrong tank while he was working on it ! winkgrin

Yeah I've had my jiffy apart 2 times in about 8 years because of recoil problems. Those little buggers of bolts are hard to hang on to much less to get every thing all ligned up with 3 gaskets, the carb and the spacer! Took me a few tries the 1st time, a little smoother the 2nd time. Glad you figured it out before you burned up about $400 and lost fishing time!
