I heard a rumor about a machine that will be cutting ice and also dredging silt on the south basin of Lake Winnipeg to start this winter.(above and beyond what they already do on the Red) Just curious as to how that would affect the water clarity and how far, on Winnipeg. I'm assuming if it is true that it should help the flooding problem.Does anyone from up there have any info on this?

I haven't heard about the dredging for this spring. The govt. did buy another amphibex that CAN be used for dredging.

If your worried about the fishing in March, dredging would not be an issue with the fishing even if they cut and dredged the channel out into the lake.

And that's all you heard wink.

Dredging isn't happening... this year, anyway whistle. They cut & break ice on the Red every year.

Renting a cabin on Netley creek the end of Feb. Will that ice breaking effect the travel out to the lake via the red river by snowmobiles.

From what I have heard it may not be safe to use Netley creek and the Red to access the lake because of ice breaking. There is a snowmobile trail from Petersfield to the lake that should still be useable. It may be easier to trailer to Chalet Beach everyday though.
