Vikings Offseason Needs/Draft

I'm thinking QB, Oline, Safety, CB...

I don't think it will be necessary to use a draft pick on a CB as we'd have a shot at one in free agency if Antoine doesn't come back (Champ, Namdi, etc) - also, Griffin is decent and Cook should only get better assuming he can stay healthy. On the other hand, we are in desperate need of a stud safety if we continue to run the cover 2...

I'm thinking Kobb would be good at QB, but if we can't get him I bet we waste a 1st rounder on someone like Ryan Mallet... Hopefully we can get a QB through free agencey and draft an Olineman with the 1st pick.

Everyone keeps saying we need help on Dline and I disagree. We are fine at Dline even without Pat Williams and Ray Edwards. Obviously our D line will take a step back, but this will be the case regardless of who we get to fill in for Pat Williams

Just my thoughts....

Anyone else?

I say we trade out pick and drop down to later in the 1st round, there's not really a O-linemen to take that early. Then we can get our pick back that Child wasted and still get a guy we need.

dline would take a HUGE step back without pat williams and ray edwards. definitely going to need some help there

can never have too many corners either

also a QB needs to be priority one for the Vikes.

Kolb or Orton in a trade, Mallett in the draft.... heck we'll give you Drew Stanton for cheap

Kiper's mock draft has the Vikings taking Nate Solder-OT from Colorado.

Todd McShay has the Vikings taking Tyron Smith-OT from USC.

Did you watch a game this year?? Pat Williams did absolutely nothing at all. Jimmy Kennedy and Guion were way better than him. And Edwards... I think that Robison is just as good, if not better than him. I would also like to see Griffen get some playing time. There are way bigger needs than the Dline.

I am positive the best step is going to be to go O-line (Mike Pouncey) in the first round. Extremely versitile, quick, plays multiple positions. I think we will have to get him before Philly. Watch his brother play this Sunday. He is the center for the Steelers. If we can trade down to get some value later in the draft that would be great.

A QB free agent is going to be the answer for us for next year. I wish we could draft TCU QB Andy Dalton in a later round. If we waste our pick on an [PoorWordUsage] like Scam Newton or Dunce Mallet I am moving to Green Bay. Our pending pick almost reminds me of the year we took Troy Williamson.

Might as well, then Harvin would have company on the injury report every week and there would be more people that the coaches would be forced to game plan around, not knowing if they felt like playing or not week to week.

GOBLUE...your take on the Vikes D-line situation is a little extreme IMO. Edwards and Phat Pat can take a walk and our d-line becomes instantly BETTER than last years. We have quality guys in both spots who could and will perform better than both Pat and Ray.

if Edwards and Williams go, you're left with

DE's

Jared Allen

Everson Griffen

Brian Robison

DT's

Kevin Williams

Fred Evans

Letroy Guion

Jimmy Kennedy

You simply cannot go through a season with only 3 defensive ends and 4 defensive tackles. Robison is promising, sure. So is Guion. But Jimmy Kennedy and Fred Evans are average at best. Going to need a couple new bodies in there, I think it is pretty crucial for the Vikes to get at least one more DE and DT that have at least the potential to develop into starters, to say nothing about depth

subtracting two starters (8 sacks for Edwards, run clogging for Williams, although he's obviously getting less effective) and not replacing them doesn't make the defensive line better.

You obviously have a higher opinion of Edwards and Phat Pat than I do then.

IMO...they are average at best(and that's being kind) and easily replaceable.

The vikes will pick up a few d-lineman either thru free-agency or the draft....they do every year. I'm just saying with the losses of Edwards and Pat, this team is better for it.

I like the QB from TCU also... HE is a WINNER! and when it comes to sports all you want is a winner to lead you. Drew Brees is not the "best" at any one thing but he WINS. That is what I would like to see.

What do you guys think of Macelroy(sp) from Alabama.....I haven't heard of him on any list. I think he may be a steel for somebody in a late round, or FA. A definate winner, seems to get the ball to somebody quickly. He resembles Carson Palmer or Chad Pennington, or even Brees....not a lot of arm strength, but thinks quickly enough to get rid of the ball to an open guy. Looks like a sleeper to me.

This is the guy (Dalton) I hope they get...2nd round.

vikings need:

QB, LT, LG (backup/future replacement for hutch), C, RG, DT, DE, CB and two S. If they lose Rice they will need at least one WR too.

Other than that, they're good to go smile

Williams is definitely in decline, but if you think one of our backup ends will outperform Edwards, I will humbly submit that you are overly optimistic/straight up nuts smile

Robison can outplay Edwards any day of the week.

No doubt about it. Edwards is a selfish player. Robison is a team player. And Big ole Jimmy Kennedy was more of a penetrating run stopper than Pat Williams. If you could play on nostalgia Farve would still be the league's best QB.

I see the Vikes signed a WR(Iglesias) from the Bears practice squad, A DE (Awasom) from the UFL, and now a WR (Arceneaux) from the CFL. Interesting, but I keep wondering if it has anything to do with the possible lock-out? The owners shouldn't be able to use replacements like they did during the strike, should they? Maybe Frazier just likes their talent.... and they looked good against the competition they had. Maybe they can find a QB (Warner clone) in the CFL or UFL also. Nobody is giving Bomar a chance either....he or Webb could be just as good as any we could get in the draft. (that is a [PoorWordUsage] shoot)

My 2 cousins and myself just finished up a windy 4 day trip to our favorite lake. It was the last of the year and was eventful to say the least. When we arrived, water temperatures were 61 degrees and when we left yesterday morning the water temps had dropped to 54 degrees. The fishing was fantastic, once again, and we caught walleyes, bass, and northerns on minnows and crawlers(northerns only on minnows). We found the fish adjacent to shallow rock piles(14') in 20'-28' of water. Our best fishing hours of the day were ~5:30 -twilight in the evenings and until ~ 10:30 in the mornings. Although those two time periods were prime time, fish bit all day. For us, the bite was very light and we probably missed or lost as many fish as we caught. Some people think I'm nuts when I say bead color can make a difference and it certainly did this trip. My cousin's "go to" green/white bead combo did zilch on this trip. It was one translucent red bead and a plain size #2 gamakatsu hook with a 3' leader that produced the fish. We ended up with 137 walleyes and 19 bass for the 4 day outing. We caught far more 17"-19.999" walleyes on this trip than on our previous trips and our numerous slot fish measured from 21"-25". My younger cousin caught 4 slot fish in ~20 minutes one evening. We fish exclusively for walleyes and additional species are incidental. With that said, we caught some beautiful smallmouth bass on this trip and they were right down there with the walleyes, usually in the rocks. As usual, everything is catch and release except for the fish we eat while there and the 12 walleyes(3 individual limits) we take home to the wives. While cleaning some eaters we kept for supper, we always check the stomach contents. One of the walleyes had the jig that is pictured below loose in its stomach!  No attached line, no embedded hook, just the jig! It baffled us as to how in the world it could have gotten there . As you can see, the jig is in good shape so the fish must have swallowed it recently .   The boat traffic was minimal this trip and we had a couple days where it looked as if we had the lake to ourselves. Sunday was a brutal day with wind gusts to 50MPH!. We stayed in and ventured out finally at ~5:00. It turned out to be the best 2 hours of the entire trip. This time, the baby loons were around, the eagles were abundant, the changing leaves made the entire lake area look like a painting. If I could make only one short trip a year to the lake, now would be the time. What capped off the trip was the magnificent display of the Northern Lights. We can't wait for next spring to return, God willing, and, in the meantime, good fishing.  MarkB🙂 The jig found in the stomach of a walleye we ate.   My young cousin with his best of the trip.   a chunky 17" smallmouth   19.5" smallmouth

What an amazing extended weekend. The fish were happy and cooperated nicely.   We also had the unique experience of fishing under Northern Lights each of the last three nights in pristine weather conditions.  I wish everyone could have that experience, even if just once.  The pics below don't do it justice, though you get the idea.  The walleyes are putting on the feedbag and some are getting rather plump.  We caught mostly slot fish with several 'overs' in our bag.  Our two biggest weighed 8lbs 5oz and 8lb 3oz.     The crappies were active at dusk and beyond.  Almost all of the ones we caught were 14" or bigger.  The biggest we caught was a bit over 15".  We lost two muskies at the boat and caught a 38" pike after dark - quite surprising.   Every fish we caught was immediately released btw.  Water temp 54/55 when we left.  All-in-all, another great fishing experience on Lake Vermilion - for which I'm so incredibly appreciative.

Yep, it's just you know and I know every dad who takes his kids or family camping for the first time.  Is buying the camping gas no matter the cost, cuz it says "Camping" on it! 🤭🤭
