Nice walleye bite

Very nice walleyes being caught under the dam in Sartell (jig and minnow head) drop your transducer down the hole and keep moving until you see fish.

Just remember the ole miss. is not stocked at all with walleyes they are there because of natural reproduction. Please be respectfull of the fishery and release all the prime spawning size walleyes. 18-28in. If you do venture out on to the river please be carefull after all it is the RIVER and there is CURRENT under the ice.

Right below the dam. I drive past it all the time and see guys down there but have never brought myself to venture out.

I went there, dropped in my Aqua-Vu and all I saw was a big old boat on the bottom. It's really deep there.

Yesterday it was 8-10 inches and the hot bait was a Lindy Darter (dace). I caught 15-18 fish all but two were on a darter (the other two were on a #6 Swedish Pimple nickel/glow and a minnow head). I kept four in the 16-17 inch range for supper for the family last night.

I found that mono doesn't work there (too much stretch). Bring braid and at least a

25,000 grin series reel. Be prepared to bring up some 'pout outta that hole.

Something smells fishy here. I know a couple guys who were fishing out there yesterday and they each caught 1 walleye and a couple pout. We tried it this morning and all we caught was 3 northern, no other bites at all. Also, it seems strange that you used a Darter down there in the current. The Darter would end up 20+ feet to the side of the hole from the current. You would be reeling it in like it was a crankbait. Maybe you did have a good day down there, but I did not experience a great bite down there this morning and others I have talked to are catching a few at best.

Be carfeul whoever tries fishing down there. 10" of ice at the most, 6" in some other areas, and obviously less ice as you get closer to open water. Not really a spot you should bring attention to as there is not room for many people out there and ice really is not all that safe generally speaking.

I don't feel that I need to justify my report to you but this is what I'll say... You need to see the fish on the graph first (if you don't keep moving), thats what I thought about the darter and pimple too but they both worked. I have been fishing late morning and early afternoon every time.

On a side note: I talked with a couple of guys who said that they caught a limit in 15 minutes last Saturday and they had SIX guys with them. When I talked with them they had ZERO fish and were leaving, 45 minutes after they left the fish started biting.

Just my observations, good luck.

I fished 8 different holes this morning covering the whole perimeter of the "safe" fishing ice. It's not a very big area to fish and the 8 holes spread out in the area pretty much covered the entire area. I never sit in one spot and fish unless I'm catching fish. Fished sunrise to 11:30 am.
