Sunday's football game

Recommended Posts

Not quite sure if this would be the best place to put this question but I figure since some of the wonderful I.Falls locals will see this, where is the best place in International Falls to watch the Packers and Bears game, I'll be up there with my girls hockey team this weekend and will need somewhere to watch the game, any favorite sports bars...or better yet a wisconsin friendly bar wink

It will be a manly game, not played under some heated dome. Looks like once again the Superbowl champs will be a team that plays home games where they were meant to be played - outdoors.

Can you imagine how good the Pack will be next year when they have all their starters!

I am hoping to travel to Dallas in a few weeks to see the Pack play the Steelers. I doubt the tailgaters will be as warm as they were at Lambeau with temps at -10 degrees. It was about like that the last time I saw the Bears come to Green Bay. I had four free tickets courtesy of a guide customer who was the Bears Defensive backs coach. It was embarassing, we beat them by about 40 as I remember. Hoping for a similar result this week in Chicago.

I agree, I'm looking forward to watching the game, it'll be one for the books, I wouldn't mind seeing the pack put up 40 points but I have a feeling it'll be a lot closer game than that, any chance the game will be played on the radio up there

Hey Gardn 184, I am also a girls hockey parent at the 12U level, you must be in town for the 10U tourney. Good Luck finding a wisconsin friendly bar up here. I see the game is going to be on fox channel 11 up here. Any bar you goto should have it on. There is The Spot, Border Bar, Viking, Rumors,Roadhouse, Outpost, Holiday Inn lots of places to pick from, but just a few where kids can hang out and play games. One good thing is at Kerry Park where most of the games are at they have 2 TV's and usually they will have a sports game on and if they don't have that on just ask them to turn it on and they will. Last weekend I was there for my daughters game and they had all the playoff games on all weekend. Go Bears wink Vikings Country.

I figured a packers bar would be hard to come by in I. Falls, a cheesehead can always dream though wink I'm actually up with the college girls club team I help coach, we'll be playing Rainy River Community College, good luck in your tourny though!

I like outdoor football in the elements as well as the next guy. And that's fine when the season use to end in mid December or you're playing somewhere other than Minneapolis.

But playing on a frozen surface as was played on the new U of M field in December is stupid, not to mention dangerous. Now if you really want manly maybe the league should look into playing a game in Winnipeg in January - like the NHL has a few throwback outdoor games now.

When Rodgers noggin bounces off the frozen tundra somewhere and he doesn't know his name anymore maybe you'll think differently. BTW quoting from madison dot com: "Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers doesn’t hide the fact that he prefers to play indoors, where there’s no wind, cold, rain or snow to affect his throws. Green Bay’s passing attack is tailor-made for domes, though McCarthy believes it can flourish in any conditions."

If MN ever gets a new outdoor stadium the NFL will steer clear from allowing the Super Bowl to be played in it. The only chance and that is extremely slim (google super bowl location history) is if they have heat under the sod or turf. Oh and if you heat the ground, as is Lambeau and the Packers practice field, you're removing one of the elements.

Obviously, living in the nation's icebox, I don't mind cold weather but wouldn't attend an outdoors game if it was below 0.

I only ice fish in that weather -:)

Hi,

I like watching NFL football because most of the guys have worked extremely hard to get where their at. Add the elements of playing on frozen ground,

extreme temps & what a great way to wreck your entire career. Can you imagine

playing football today in I. Falls at -46 below. Its easy for folks to say, football was meant to be played outdoors when their not ones out there freezing their butts off & risking a career ending injury. I can accept Target Field where the Twins play, at least its warmer, I still would have liked to have saw a retractable roof if someone had to travel a long ways to see a game & there was a rain-out.

Oh, and my 2 favorite teams are the Vikings & whoever is playing the packers, I'm not a jay cutler fan, but do like the line coach Mike Tice. I do like Aaron Rogers, but forsure not a cheesehead. If Rogers hits the ground 1 time, he may not know what planet he's on, if he can stay upright, I would pick the pack to win, as he is way out cutlers league. As for the ViQueens, what a pityful coach & season full of injuries & controversies...however Frazier & Singletary could change all that, I think Frazier is much like Tony Dungy. If the Vikings stay in Minnesota, I think they could have a contender soon.

My 2 cents,

Sincerely,

Fishmeister

I can see what you guys are saying about injuries. I would like to see some stats on how many serious football injuries occured when it was very cold. You would think they would be worse then. But most of the really bad injuries that I remember came under warmer conditions. Course bout the only things I remember very well any more are which humps I caught a bunch of bass from.

Until you have attended a sub-zero game at Lambeau, you have not seen real tailgating. Only done it once but it was a hoot. Having to chew your beer seems to get em more fiesty than normal. Be sure to wear all your ice fishing gear plus one extra layer.

When it snows in Green Bay, they actually pay folks to go and shovel out Lambeau. I hear they then sell the snow to tourists but ain't fer sure about that part.

yup, looks like the Pack will be adding yet another World Championship trophey to the case in Green Bay. It is good to be a Packer fan - even in Texas. I celebrated the victory over the Bears with the local Austin Packer fan club. Looks like all the big cities in Texas have Packer backers.

Go to the link to check out some details and hear Packer songs (and the infamous "Bears Suck" video).

You might have noticed that priests have been wearing green and gold at recent services. I just found out that Jesus sent his mom to Green Bay! He must have known how hard it would be to get season tickets so he sent her early. Here is part of the latest story by green bay press gazette (or Google for more):

"David Ricken, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, announced today his official approval of the Marian apparitions at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion.

Ricken’s decision makes the shrine the first and only site in the United States of an approved apparition of the Virgin Mary. The designation puts it in the same category as other famous Marian apparition sites such as Lourdes, France; Guadalupe, Mexico; and Fatima, Portugal."

Hey CappyTan,

I want the pack to win to, only because I like Aaron, & dislike Ben., and the way your lips have been flappin Capptytan, I hope for your sake the pack does win, because I would hate to hear the excuses if they do happen to lose. God has always had a way of humbling folks, yours may be coming.

Sincerely,

Fishmeister

My two favorite teams playing each other for the LOMBARDI trophy at that new Outhouse that is home of my least favorite team. It doesn't get any better. Well snatching the Halas trophey at Soldier Field was sweet too.

I need to find a good Packer bar in Dallas. I hear they are NOT allowing tailgating at the Outhouse (yet another reason to dislike the Cryboys). But I am sure Green Bay fans that cannot afford a ticket (me!) will find someplace else to gather in Dallas.

My wish for Super Bowl--- Pack has the ball, behind 4 points with 2 min 30 seconds to go in the game. And then ................. well you can figger out the rest.

Under 2 minutes, are they going to bring Farve in?? Couldn't resist. I hope the packers win also. I think I have to give you a call, your posts and your poems are getting me concerned, maybe you need an intervention. (:
