Black Bay

Hi, I was thinking about going after some pike at the mouth of Black Bay, is that a good big pike spot this time of season? Can a guy still hook into some walleyes there or is it mainly pike?

Hi Majestic,

I would say the best time is March, there are many northerns caught over 40". You can catch them now, but March is the best. Same with walleyes, you can catch them now, but the best month is March & sometimes we still have good ice in April, that can be even better.

Sincerely,

Fishmeister

Hey what can I say? I'm patient like a bowhunter!!

Would I be better off trying some of the other bays that have deeper water at the mouth? I see Black Bay only gets 18-22ft deep at the mouth, maybe I'm better off finding a bay with really deep water near the mouth.

Or do most of them leave the mouth of the bays all together and head out to the deeper reefs and Islands? I'm guessing middle of season with all this snow cover it drove the fish deeper. I know the area fairly well by studying maps and being up there about 10 times now, far from a pro though.

How's the slush out east? I was up there about two weeks ago and it was pretty rough, almost got stuck a few times. It limited where we fished big time, you couldn't find the spot on the spot because the spot you wanted to fish more then likely was a slush pile so you had to just make due and set up where it was solid. Hoping this trip will be better, have to make the most of it when your only up there a few times a year.
