4 Year Wedding Anniversary

Well the wife and I made our annual trek up to Mille Lacs to celebrate our 4 year wedding Anniversary. The past 3 years the fishing has only been marginal at best so we really didn't expect a whole lot. Just some down time for us to spend some quality time alone without the daily rigors of life (our 3 wonderful children crazy ). We decided to try Appledorns Sunset Bay Resort on some information I had recieved on this forum and Paul (General Manager) did not dissapoint! He checked in on us at least twice daily and has some of the nicest houses we have stayed in to date. Did I forget to mention the fishing?? It was Lights out for 3 full days and nights. Most of our fish were caught on rattle wheels which was great because it allowed us to do other things wink like read books blush We caught lots of jumbo perch, walleye, and 1 really nice northern. I would truly recommend Appledorns Resort to anyone interested in getting away. We were fishing the east end gravel in 22 feet of water. Did some jigging with the 1/16th forage minnows in gold but rattle wheels ruled the weekend. I was using small red octopus style hooks with 1 red bead and a medium sized crappie minnow. The fish would come through in waves (schools) and not all were Jumbos. We ended up with 25 good sized perch and the big perch went 13 1/2. We also kept 4 walleyes and everything else was released. Hope you enjoy the photo's and a big THANK YOU to Paul and the group at Appledorns!

Sorry about the promotional picture. Strikemaster has a contest going right now on thier website where you could win a new auger or a guided fishing trip. I have never been on a guided ice fishing trip before on Mille lacs and am hoping to try and win.

Nice ! We spent our honeymoon at Rainbow Inn 21 years ago. I still do not know how I pulled that one off ! My wife gets seasick standing on the end of a dock ! She sat in the cabin with the dogs and I fished like a mofo !!

Doug,

Thank you so much for the kind words.

You should have told me it was your Anniversary, then I could have really given you a hard time smile

DRH1175,

Thank you, I know how lucky I am. We were up last Thursday thru Sunday. Not sure but maybe the storm had something to do with the great bite we had. Certainly Paul had the house on top of fish. Most of our fish came on the rattle wheels though. We used small Gamakatsu red hooks with med sized crappie minnows for the perch and walleye. I caught a few fish jigging smaller spoons with minnow heads but it seemed to me they just wanted it deadsticked. Good luck up there, I hope your bite is just as good or better than ours.
