Whats the bite like on Elysian. I saw a ton of houses out in the narrows of the lake. Anyone have any idea whats going on out there?

I heard one really good report from a guy that was going out a few hours before sunrise but otherwise haven't seen a lot of activity. Fish the north end around the aerator. Oxygen is low on the south end and fish might be a little more sluggish down there. You might also asphyxiate your minnows if you fish them on the bottom on that end.

Big tip of the cap to the Southern Lakes chapter of the MN Darkhouse and Angling Association. They are operating all of the aerators on Elysian and have been on top of it this year in spite of some mechanical difficulties. Both aeration sites have opened up a bunch of water...now if the dissolved oxygen numbers would pick up a little on the south end.

The aerator operators have purchased a dissolved oxygen meter and might be able to pipe in with some more current reports. Last reports I saw were from mid-January. I don't think the lake is in peril, but I would maintain the north end will still be better oxygen-wise than the south end.

Remember that the highest dissolved oxygen will be near the ice and the lowest near the substrate, so any one hanging a spear decoy or minnow on a jig a foot off the bottom will probably watch a minnow take its last "breaths."
