Amsoil HP Injector cost/gallon in Duluth area?

Recommended Posts

Bought a gallon of Amsoil HP Injector oil for my snowmobile last night and paid $39.99. What are other places in the area charging for this gallon? I won't name the establishment just yet out of respect, but I think I paid way too much.

Hmmm, I can't get it in gallons up here in Ely unless I order from Amsoil. You can order HP Injector off the Amsoil site for $31.55/gallon, not including tax/shipping. Delivered standard shipping to my door off the Amsoil site, it'd be $42.82, about $9 of that for shipping.

Isn't that injector oil I have in the shop used in snowmobiles??? I think it's $29.99/gal.

If it's HP Injector, that's what it's used for. If it's Saber Pro or Saber Pro Outboard, it's not meant for injection sleds. If you have HP Injector for $29.99, that's a great price! smile

In Duluth you've got an advantage over most everyone else. You can get all your AMSOIL products for no freight, and better yet get it wholesale too:

Go online this link: Get the preferred customer option first ($20.00 per year to save by buying at wholesale). Then go to the page for HP Injector - $24.25 per gallon wholesale, $31.55 per gallon retail. Make sure to mark your order for PICKUP in Superior. Go across the bridge to the big AMSOIL building and pick it up and have no freight charges.

NOTE: For most 2-cycle snowmobiles the HP Injector will work, but the Interceptor (product code AIT) is the preferred - Interceptor will do a better job of keeping the power valves clean.

With these links I get credit for it, and as a FM/HSO sponsor I appreciate your business.

Shipping comment - shipping on 1 single gallon is about $9.00, but shipping on 2 gallons is only $9.85, and on a case of 4 is $15.04.

Thanks, Don. I got that same advice late last winter, and I just switched from HP Injector to Interceptor this winter in my sled.

Do as the Oilman says or just drive to Superior and go directly to Amsoil over the Bong Bridge to the left. You can pay $20 and get on the prefered customer list and save on all you buy. Its worth it if you use Amsoil in your sleds, augers, boats, mowers etc. Im on this and if I remember right it pays for itself after about $100. I use Amsoil in everything but my truck so I get more than my $20 back.

That reminds me I have to stop over there tomorrow and get mor Saber for the Nils.

Oilman, thanks for the headsup. I did send an email complaint to the store I bought my gallon - anxious to see what I get for a reply. Kind of po'd about the whole deal...from now on I will only buy what I need from London Rd site.

Heartman just reading this and I don't think anybody did you wrong here. Maybe I missed something but 39.99 from a store is right about on, cause you'd pay 31.55 + the shipping which would end up probably costing you more than 39.99. Or pay the $20 fee per year to Amsoil (which I do because I use there stuff in everything I own) buy it for 24.95 + shipping and handling if you wanted that. Yes it is cheaper for us locally to go right to warehouse, but remember the guy who sold it to you is running a business and he has to make a buck too . wink

That's a great price, Jim. If you could make a good price on gallons of Interceptor, I'd buy one or more. After I got the same advice last winter that Don provided in this thread, I've made the switch to Interceptor in the Polaris.

2 quick questions. When converting over to Amsoil in a sled, is it necessary to drain out all existing oil so as not to mix oils? I am assuming so, but want to make sure. I still have almost a gallon of Cat oil left in the garage to run thru.

And, is the preferred customer $20 a yearly cost that needs to be renewed each year or is it a one-time cost?

Thanks. I'd like to switch over to the Interceptor in the sled, and also need to use the 0-w20 full synthetic for my truck.

Yearly Chris. Like I said if you buy around $100 worth of stuff its worth it. heck just a couple cases of oil for the boat and lower unit oil pays for it. Add in all my 2 strokes and its a no brainer. I havent done my sled yet but will.

Chris, I didn't clean/wipe out the oil tank or anything on either of the sleds I converted to Amsoil, but I did wait until they were almost dry before filling with Amsoil. Sleds never missed a beat.

Jaxtas, not buying your argument. If the guy in Ely can sell it for 29.99/gallon, why would a guy sell it for 39.99/gallon except greed? That's a 40% markup over his cost/wholesale. I'm all for supporting our local shops, but where do you draw the line? I'm a loyal MG customer and willingly pay a bit more there, but this is ridiculous. Fool me once...

Heartman, the guy in Ely ain't making much on the sale, when shipping is figured in. Different retailers do it differently. Is a 40% markup unreasonable for oil? I don't know.

If you haven't used it, why don't you just return it for a refund and move on to a less expensive purchase option? You definitely know now how to maximize your Amsoil dollar. smile

Thanks Steve and Steve grin

I figure a couple/three gallons for the sleds, 5 quarts for the boat plus a quart of lower unit lube, 2 gallons for the truck, and a bit of Sabre for the small engine stuff will easily take me over the $100 mark wink

I'll finish off the Cat oil this year and convert then to the Interceptor.

Heartman, could is maybe have been a mistake? 39.99 would be about what a gallon of Interceptor would run likely, not Injector. Maybe it was simply an honest error on their part (from your post I'm figuring MG). I bet a call to Russ or Cory might straighten it out. Just a thought......Interceptor-Injector, not too hard to mistake for one another. 2c

Well, my actual plan is to run mine down and switch it over, and use the rest of the Cat oil in the Missus's sled til its gone grin

I've still got almost a whole gallon of Polaris semi-synthetic oil sitting in the garage from the last sled.

PM on the way.

Knowing that you can get it for $29.99 elsewhere does make the $39.99 price seem a bit steep. But as mentioned earlier I don't know if that is too much of a mark up or not.

The Preferred Customer is $20.00 per year. After the first year if you choose not to pay the $20.00 you still get 10% off the retail as a "Save 10" customer - a fairly new program.

Change over? Same recommendation as with outboard injected 2-stroke: run the old down to the warning level, then just top off with AMSOIL. It is compatible to mix but best if mixing is minimized. Don't ever take a chance on running all the way out!

Jaxtas, it is to big a markup when other local vendors are selling for 29.99. Shipping is zero - the shop is about three miles from the factory in this case. Why should I have to plead with the place to offer a reasonable price - I thought market demand set prices. Maybe there was no knowledge of what other establishments were charging though...whatever.

Amsoil is a terrific product - I run it in every internal combustion engine I have - cars, trucks, outboards, ATV, snow machines, and their lube is great for my Beretta shotgun as well.

I'd be curious to see what the going retail rate for that gallon is around Duluth/Superior. So far the only other actual price quoted was from one vendor up here in Ely.
