Kids first time ever best bet for numbers near Faribault?

Recommended Posts

Gonna be taking my sisters kids out ice-fishing for their first time ever on Sat. which lake near Faribault is the best bet for numbers on pan fish? Just need to (hopefully) catch a bunch to keep 'em entertained and make their first experience exciting. Not looking for your CIA security level "honey-hole" just a little shove in the right direction.

P.S. I'm not being lazy as in "find your own fish" like some people like to say when you ask this kind of question! The last time I fished the Faribault area was 14 years ago. Just want the kids to be able to catch a lot of fish their first time so hopefully they will enjoy it and want to keep fishing.

For numbers, look to French or Mazaska right now...Or better yet, bring em over to Waterville/ Lake Tetonka on Saturday for the GTG, I'm very sure we can all get the kids on a bunch of fish.

I live in Waseca and took the kids out after school the other day and caught a lot of sunfish and crappies on just a tear drop and wax worms. If your phone has the inter net look at this spot i marked with google maps. Click Here Just 1 foot or two off the bottom they never stoped biting all day. Not the biggest but big enough to clean for a meal. You shouldn't have time to fish your self if their down there.

I honestly would make the trip to Duck Lake which is a little north of Madison Lake. You cant keep your line in the water. Alot of action with pan fish... some nice ones but a lot of mid range crappies and sunnies... Might get lucky a snag a northern too! We sat out there for 5 hours and pulled in over 60 fish! If you want the kids to get hooked on it I would maybe bring them there!

24-30 fow on clear lake in waseca. Lots of small crappies and sunfish, but would be excellent action for the kids! Minnow head on a jig has been working better than waxies, but they do go for waxies at times too, just takes a little more convincing. Small crappie minnow on a bobber will also produce fish. Out of 100 crappies i didn't catch one bigger than 9", but them are monsters and good memories for kids!

If you have an underwater camera you'll have all the entertainment they need!

Right near the bottom in the deepest part of the lake? Is that normal for ice fishing?

Lots of good suggestions guy and gals. Thanks for helping the youngsters out. Last year I brought some kids out near your mapped spot Dennsplace. Got all the action they could handle.
