Can you use remote and foot pedal on I Pilot?

Dan L

Question

I have heard conflicting information on the I Pilot. Someone said you cannot use the remote for the I pilot and the foot pedal at the same time. Something about only one can be plugged in at the same time. Does it have something with what trollong motor you are using? Terova vs a Power Drive maybe. I would like to be able to use my foot pedal and then hit the anchor button without switching anything around. Can anyone clarify this?

I purchased a Power Drive last year and then the I-Pilot add on. To add the I-Pilot I had to remove the foot control connections. It is not possible to run i-pilot and foot control.

Once you get used to the remote it is a piece of cake and I would not want to go back to foot control.

i put a terrova i-pilot on my boat last spring and have yet to use the pedal, why? the pedal only controls the speed, direction, autopilot, and momentary on/off, the remote is were its at as far as the rest of the ipilot features, spotlock, trackback, cruise control, and on and on, if your still on the fence as far as getting one with ipilot, save up if needed and get it when you can, you wont regret it.

fish on!

Terrova = both foot pedal and I-Pilot

Powerdrive = I-Pilot only, you can't use the foot pedal once you install the I-Pilot

You can use both on the Terrova, only one or the other on the Powerdrive.

True but

You have to solder wires on the V2, and the foot pedal will no longer work. It doesn't sound like it will change any time soon either. No quick fix. For eye fishing the I-pilot is all you need, but try fishing a line of docks in and out without a foot pedal.

Ice-man, I agree. I fished spring pike in Manitoba last year with a friend's i-pilot. Drove me nuts. We're cranking raps, spoons, spinners, etc in shallow bays with lots of rocks, fallen trees, weeds coming up. If you need to change boat speed or course during a retrieve you have to stop cranking, grab the remote, turn it right side up, find the right button, push the button, then start cranking again. Hopefully, you're not snagged on a rock by then. Or you miss a strike. And the LCD readout on the remote is way too small for geezers like me. I also bass fish a lot the same way, and I'd never give up my foot control. For trolling, i-pilot probably works ok, but not for casting & retrieving.

I've got a Terrova w/ I-pilot as well. I use my foot pedal as much, if not more than the remote. If you're trolling, draggin, or riggin, then I'll use the remote a bit more (setting a course, gps functions, or anchor lock), but if I'm casting or jigging, i need my hands free, and use the remote. IE - I need both now that I have I -pilot and it's awesome functions, but I rarely used my remotes when I had the Co-pilot option.

I'm primarily a foot pedal guy too and only use the hand remote in a few situations --- but one of them is fishing wing-dams on the river. Wow, you could say the i-Pilot was made just for that application!

I'm a muskie fisherman and the cruise control and track back are invaluble for me, more time casting less time messing with the trolling motor, and than achor lock is the cats meow when your trying to hold on a spot for an extended period of time. I love setting a speed and working into the wind and never having to reach down and turn up or down the speed control.
