Extravaganza Update

Recommended Posts

Just came off the lake with the Sheriff Dept. Found anywhere from 15 3/4 inches to 22 inches of ice within the contest boundaries so all is good. No slush to be found. Time to make your plans if you have not done so already.

A perimeter buffer road has been plowed around the site. No participant's vehicle or fish house will be allowed inside of this boundary. Outside of the boundary is fair game. There has been chatter as to when the access will be closed. Just to clarify, technically the access is not closed as the sheriff does not have the authority to do so. The Sheriff does have the authority to close the road going to the access which is planned again. When it will be closed depends on the actions of everyone. When it turns into a zoo, it will be closed. I would anticipate by dark on Friday night and through the end of the tournament. Residents who live along the road are granted permits which allow them access to their houses.

Another note - the DOT is giving the bus company a hard time about shuttling propane. We've read the statute and it's a grey area. Keep an eye on the extravaganza web site for notices to this regard. I'm pretty sure that you will not be allowed to bring tanks larger than 1lb on the shuttles. The Jaycees are doing what they have always done, facing a problem and finding a solution with everyone's interest in mind.

It's going to be another great year, great prizes and lots of fun with family and friends. Don't forget that it's truly the non profits and the people they serve that will benefit. A bulk of the proceeds go to Camp Confidence which last year provided outdoor opportunities to more than 3,000 Minnesotan's with disabilities.

I look forward to fishing it for the first time with my 8 year old son who thinks he needs a new ATV. What are you going to win?

Good Luck Fishing!

Your 8 yr old might be a little groggy on the ice. The boys might burn the midnight oil the night before. They should be pretty fired up.
