Recommended Posts

Big carnelian might as well be called "big marine jr". They literally are the same lake! The only difference may be the crappies are a little easier to find in big marine. Either lake should give you some action with hammer handles though...even little ones are fun to catch through the ice.

Never been out on big c, but ditto what jb said about big marine. You'll catch 10 pike for every keeper and the last few years it's been 20 crappies for every keeper. 3 years ago it was pretty decent out there but it's been fished way down for the crappies.

I was out on B.C. A few pike and some panfish, nothing special but it hasnt been the hottest bite anywhere the past week.

Caught a few nice crappies on BC last night, way after dark. Lot's of people moving shacks around looking for the good bite.

Driving a car your problem wouldnt be out on the lake but getting on it. Pretty big ice heave right at shore (public landing) like there is most every year. Not sure if you'd get hung up getting over it in a car or not but I know it would be close.

some say you can get onto the lake somewhere near 130th street on the west side of the lake. might be able to get on easier there rather than the access

i wouldnt try to get on over off 130th its a private easement and they really watch it good i think they might of put up a fence

you out on moonlight bay donbo?

grin

Got a few more Friday night. Seems 5:30 - 7:00 was the time. 35 FOW. Certainly not hammering them, but was a lot fun for an hour.

FWIW, I would not drive a car out there.

Anybody been out on Big Carnelian lately? Thinking of going out christmas morning or something. Hows the ice? Any pointers on where to start out? I'm not real familiar with the lake.

Thanks

never fished it on hard water. for pike i like the western shore in the center of the lake where it drops off. also the big point on the northeast side in the 40 foot hole for suspended crappies. there is a shallow bar that comes off that point also where you can set up some tip ups for pike. the southern bay i would think would also be good for some tip ups along with some gill action. good luck.

Thanks for the pointers. Just to clarify, I'm not looking for anyones hotspots. Just looking to catch some fish. I'm taking my godson and his brother out there while the woman get the christmas dinner and stuff all set up. He is 4 and his brother is 6 so I'm just hoping I can find them some fish to keep them occupied for a few hours.

Thanks again though, I'll be sure to try out the spots. Anybody have any pointers for some easy panfish out there?
