Paper map.

Recommended Posts

Hi Slurpie,

Best map is the noaa maps, there are like 8 or 9 maps. Each show a different section of Rainy. The hot spot map of Rainy is poor at best simply because there is no detail. The noaa maps are big (approx-2'x3'), but it shows the detail. You can get these maps at most of the local bait shops.

Sincerely,

Fishmeister

yeah, get one of the whole lake and then the sub maps of the areas you fish most. Got the whole north arm taking up a wall in my office. I know I've ordered them from Sportsmans Service several times, but I would think all the local bait shops would have them.

Stop in at your local DNR office and see if they have one available or if they can get you one. A friend of mine goes into the DNR office in St Paul all the time and gets maps for various lakes. He says they have several different types of maps but he usually gets the plastic ones. Just a thought.

Go to www.charts.noaa.gov/interactiveCatalog/nrnc.shtml You then zoom in on the area you want and can view each section, they don't have some of the canadian sections but most of the north arm. Fun to look at when your maps are at the lake and you aren't. Lake master keeps saying they are going to do the paper ones to follow their great chips but they have said that for a couple years.

You can order Canadian Hydrographic maps online from Thorne Brothers. They are esentially the same as the NOAA maps and have coverage for each part of the lake. Map #'s for the American side, from west to east, are 6108, 6109, and 6112.

There is a computor version of the noaa map by Fugawi. Capt. John turned me on to them, I ordered a cd through Cabelas and it's probably on Fugawi's website, was like 20bucks. I can zoom in on any part of the lake at home where it's warm, print out the areas I want, and it covers all the lakes in North America. Well worth my 20 bucks

Found a map at fleet farm for 10 bucks made by hot spot. Nothing great but gives names to learn the lake better.
