What flip best meets these criteria?

mixxedbagg

Question

I'm looking into buying a flip 2-man. It needs to be wide enough to be comfortable for 2 guys and gear, durable, and light enough that I can handle it myself (loading and unloading from a Saturn wagon and dragging) without popping a grape.

I probably need to keep it under $400 if possible. Do I have many options?

there is not many options for under $400.

the ones you could look at are :

clam nanook (non thermal) $299.99

clam nanook (thermal) $399.99

negative of the nanooks (either one) is the small seats.

the best option would be as follows except it would put you in the $500.00 range

clam denali $499.99 (2 man version) or $549.99 (4 man version but with smaller seats)

otter "wild 2" $449.99 (it is a little on the heavier side)

hope this helps

Yo bagg! I know this is going to blow your budget but I'd highly suggest

going to a Norpak insulated house. I've had 3 uninsulated houses before my

Canvas Craft Norpak house, no more frosting up, no dripping, smaller

heater, less flapping in wind much more comfortable. Made in MN. 2c

If you can find a Clam Fish Trap "Guide" used, that would fit the bill as well. Weighs around 90 lbs (mine has comfy boat seats), around 100 loaded with gear.

I get it in my SUV by lifting one end up into the truck than going around the back and lifting it up (that's the only hard part as you have most of the weight on you, and you have get a grip on the tub). Once you do it a few times, its not that bad.

I am not sure if you will find one except for used in that price range that will comfotable fish 2. I have the Fish Trap Voyager and highly recomend that size house to anyone. I fish alone quite often, it is perfect when I bring a buddy. It fits in my durango perfectly with seats folded down. And I have no problem loading it with all my gear inside. I lift the back end and then lift the front end while pushing. It is slick!

The Frabill Trekker DLX is an easy pull'r, even easier yet with runners on it.

It is the same size and weight as the Frabill commando if you removed 1 seat assembly from the Trekker DLX. It is a very light and roomy 1 - 2 man unit.

80 lbs with both seats in the unit, 68 lbs with one seat in. Then add your gear weight to that.

With snow they are all hard to pull by hand. A voyaguer would be pretty nice 1 or 2 man you could get a used one some where would be good.

I have an older Guide, the only problems I've had with pulling mine was through heavy slush, and up steep grades. Other than that, works great.

I really need to figure out what they changed on these. I got mine 2 years ago at FF on sale for $300. Per the pictures online and specs it doesn't look like anything has changed. They were regularly $350 at the time and on sale for $300.

And it should fit your criteria. I hauled it in a Subaru outback Wagon the first year, had to put it in rear first and adjust front seats just slightly but it fit. It was easier getting it into my outback too, just lift it onto the back and pick up the front and slide it in.

Well the sticking point is fitting it in the back of your Saturn! You may look at the Eskimo Qwick Flip II which is pretty light as well. wink

I should have mentioned....it's a Saturn wagon. With the seat down, it can take a sled roughly 34" wide and 61" long.

I went to the L&M today to look at a few of these. They don't have Frabills...I'm not sure if anyone near Grand Rapids does. Boy, I'd really like to SEE a unit before buying it.

The guy there recommended that I consider a popup. I didn't know if I really wanted to deal with setting one of those up...the flips sure are nice. But the popup was kind of roomy.... crazy

Ed,

Is this the one:

http://www.frabill.com/portable-ice-shelters/flip-over-shelters/6120.html

It's one of the few 2 person shelters that would fit in the Saturn.

Note exactly, that is the Plain-Jane Base Edition model Trekker.

The Trekker DLX has a different look to it, higher denier count fabric, Deluxe seats like the Predator has, rear door, and a free travel cover (Gray travel Cover as well). I think it is only available to buy in GM stores now, not on-line? Supply is getting low.

It is a Gander Mountain Exclusive Edition, an exclusive DLX package deal.

HEADS UP: They just went on sale too bud. wink

They won't last long. They are a very popular edition Frabill ice shack.
