People usually fish straight out from the public access. Unfortunately the lake has been hit hard over the years, so it's not as good as it once was. DO NOT try to go across the ice into Pokegama or Big Jay Gould. These are current areas that have thin/no ice.

I think there is alot of deep water down the middle of the bay to the west of the landing. I'd figure out where the weedline ends and deeper water cuts in towards the weedline and start there.

Just because most people fish in one spot doesn't mean that's the only place on the lake to catch 'em.

Go to Lakefinder on the MN DNR sight and give the map a look over. There seems to be two nice points. One just east of that bay in the northern part of the lake and one along the west shore. You could start shallow and work your way deeper. Just a thought. My only other suggestion would be start in that 50' hole and work shallower. A power auger and vex are mighty good tools to have around a new lake.
