no seeds in the boat-ice fishing pool 2 is extremely dangerous. there is a LOT of current in that section of the river, and i would never even walk out to test the ice with a spud bar... throw in the crazy weather and tons of snow that has heavily impacted the "ice making" in the metro area and you have even worse conditions. there are several lakes that are around pool 2 and i would suggest sticking to the lakes. it is better to be safe than sorry, especially in a river system... if you fall thru, the current takes you away from the open spot in the ice and you are pretty much done like dinner. no fish is worth your life..

on a similar note, looking back at my fishing journal from 2010, the first time i was out in the boat on pool 2 was march 4th, which is a little over 50 days away. open water will be here soon enough!

I have been thinking the same thing. In the spring I wanted to boat up to the dam and ice fish that. Even put a tip up out on a iceburg and floot down stream. The past five years of fishing this part of river in the winter. I realized this There is NO SAFE ICE in the main body of the river. You want to hit the back waters. Shoot me a email i will go. Just wait the river will open up in the next couple of weeks. Last year we had the boats in the water at end of January

Not trying to condone this but there is lots of backwater areas that you can try, Investigate farther before you head out on google earth. No matter where you go out you MUST have a fishing buddy and a life jacket and rope would also be a good idea.

I have ice fished most every where that a guy can safely and legally fish on pool 2 and it is simply not worth it. There are some areas however if you can get access to that can be good, you just need permission to cross private land.

For those of you curious, I did knock on some doors and ice fished the greycloud slough with a buddy. Before going out the guy said he had spent many hours down there looking for fish through the ice over the years but never found anything worthwhile.

We still wanted to go out so we did. The guy was right. We simply could not find a fish bigger than 4" anywhere in that dang slough.

Plus there were springs everywhere, open water in some places, and the ice was very sketchy.
