GPS?

Well for christmas my dad gave me a "coupon for a GPS unit", so I get to look around and pick one out! laugh I wasn't given any kind of strict price limit, as neither of us really know what's out there and how they're priced.

I fish out of a canoe exclusively, but would love any suggestions that people have.

One question that I have is whether or not it would be feasible to use a GPS/Sonar combo unit in a canoe. I don't know how the transducer would be mounted. It would be pretty nice to have some sonar capabilities while out fishing, a lack of lake-bottom knowledge usually keeps me targeting fish in visible weeds close to shore.

Thanks for any help with this guys!

Fishing out of a canoe I would suggest a Garmin 78s( awesome unit and it floats depending where you shop price can range from $300 to $400 then the lakemaster map another $107. As for sonar if you have a vex you can use that in conjunction.

A gps/sonar could be used all you would need is a threw hull transducer and power source.

I set up a HDS5 as a portable, using a Genz Blue Box and a Vex battery for a Canada fishing trip last summer. You should be able to do the same with any unit you like.

Do you have a ice fishing flasher now? If so mount that in the canoe and get a good hand held GPS and mount it on a Ram mount. This way you can use both all season long. I love my hnad held for finding ice fishing spots away from others. I have one of the H2Oc's that is still working. grin

For those that asked: I don't have or use any electronics in fishing at the moment, and I don't ice fish.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, keep 'em coming!

You should start ice fishing! It would give you another reason to fish. But also you mount a flasher into the canoe and fish with it.

Have you ever flipped your canoe? That would be one thing I would worry about with electronics. Try to make sure they are waterproof
