Brainerd Vacation Question

Recommended Posts

Looking at renting a cabin in the area this summer, but have no idea what lakes are all connected on the chain. Are there resorts with restaraunts/bars on the these lakes that a boat can pull up to? Is it easy to get from lake to lake? Are there any weekends to avoid for it being to crazy busy? Would like to get the kids skiing, but if its a zoo, would rather go a different time frame.

Thank you for all responses.

What chain of lakes? Both Gull and White Fish have bar and grills right on the lake. Its going to be pretty full of boats from Memorial to Labor Day weekends, every weekend. Gull, Margret, Roy and Upper Gull are connected with Zorbas, Ernies, Bar Harbor and a few others for places to eat and drink. White Fish, Cross, Rush and I think a few other lakes are connected with Moon Light Bay, Zorbas, the Warf to eat and drink at. There might be a few others to.

Not sure which chain, just starting my research. Thanks for the quick response. Which chain do you like best? Which lake would you recommend?

White Fish is a bigger chain of lakes but I spend more time on Gull. Gull is closer to Brainerd, if that makes a difference to you. Both have no shortage of entertainment with lots of sand points to park your boat and wade in the water. I am sure you would be happy with either chain. I would steer clear of the few weeks around the 4th it you dont like crowds. Thats by far the craziest time of year. Maybe early June or late August its alittle more mellow. I am sure the Brainerd Area Chamber of Commerce has a list of everything you are looking for in both areas.

ya the whitefish is way bigger

once you are out of the cross lake channels its not bad and boat traffic not really to bad you could always find a fairly quite bay to ski in

but both have like late night said plenty to do

places to eat drink etc etc

I stay at a resort on Gull in the eary spring and enjoy the entertainment as well as the access to many different lakes. The main part of Gull can get a little rough when the wind blows but it would be just as bad (if not worse) on Whitefish. There is alway a bay or area to fish if the lake gets rough but I have also had some of my best fishing on Gull when the wind was blowing. There are pleanty of smaller resorts as well as large resorts on both Gull and Whitefish and both chains have a lot to offer.....you can't go wrong with either location so now it's just a matter of determining when you want to go and finding availability.
